I have bill breaker; 20 turns to 5 x $5, $10 -> 2 x $5s.
sometimes, it not working or out of service, sometimes, disperse incorrectly...so, I check and clean the machine, but sometimes happens these....needs attentants intervenion...
The main reason that I put this bill breaker is for customer's convience, but now problems to me and them.
DO YOU THINK BILL BREAKER m/c is necessary?
I am thinking replace this with normal coin changer m/c...
what's your advice?
just fix as much as I can and keep using bill breaker?
or replace with coin-changer?
My bill breaker is just 2 years old, American Chnager made, I don't think this is good one.

Why don't you call American Changer directly! I assume you have an American Bill-To-Bill changer? They had a problem with their bill-to-bill changers there for a while and sent did some kind of a fix. So you would be best to call them in Florida.

I have the Standard BtoB and not sure of the model. I am thinking of going to $10 bills. I only have the b2b becuase I was a crd store, and when put in changers 2 was enough, so left the b2b. It is a pian, and I fill it with good bills from 3 mats. I have not had much jamming, I did for awhile, kept sending the thing back for service, they finally got it right. I would NEvER recomend one of these to anyone, it is just plain trouble. Customers do not need it or expect it, but if you provide it you are the bank of the block. If you go by the theory more quarters in the customers hands, the more they spend, then the b2b is totaly against this. You keep the customer in small quarter amounts, so not as willing to spend as say a customer with $20 worth of quarters and looking at the vending machine. B2B is only needed at a card store. Ok, think about it, doing laundry is not an impulse decision, also the customer will make adjustments to the day it will be done, ie, get smaller bills, bring thier own qtrs, etc.

I agree...
The reason that I put it was for customer's convenience and also the previous owner did bill change from attendant, iow around $300 ~ $500 5 dollor bills in the attendants hand everyday, and change for customers who want to break bills, so customers accustomed to this habit for a while, so keep asking change to attendants even during the bill to bill changes are out of order....
But now I see, I better replace it with coin changer....
no headache and no refunds due to malfunctioning of BB machine...
Thanks

I am going to post more specific info. I hope others do the same. It would have been nice if the thread was Bill to bill rather than Bb as stated:)Renamed post - Bill to Bill
MY Bill to Bill is a Standard rear load. I put it in because I had acad store at that time, and dispensed $1 bills, because I thought everyone needed $1 to buy a card. IT actually worked rather well, the b2b, until someone took a crowbar and jammed it up the slot and bent the rollers on the dispenser. It took 3 trips back to Standard before they fixed it correctly, and in the mean time I bought a used dispenser for $500. I filled the thing with about $1700 a week in $1 bills, getting them mostly from 3 other coin stores, the sorting process was a couple hours.
In Nov. last year I converted the store to coin, and made the b2b $5 output. I soon found out there was no shortage of $1 bills, as they were coming Thur the coin changer in big numbers. Now, for the bigger surprise, which had bearing on which coin changers to buy, assuming you had b2b, there would be less quarter uses?
NO! As proved by my $1 experiment, customers will use what ever you give them. My B2B goes thru about 1/2 of my total rev and get this, my changers come up short about 15% of the total revenue. So in theory this means a customer comes in, puts 20 in the b2b, gets $15 of change and leave with $2.00 of that. Since going to coin, and stopping $1 b2b, my snack and soap sales are Down a little. My over all gross is up a lot. but the put the money in their hands will they spend it? This is right in the face of having a b2b. I am lucky here, nobody has attended nats, much less b2b machines, so no great need to put them in the other locations. I fact, I would rather have another root canal. I think a b2b hasd a place in a card store, or maybe in an area where comp has you beat changing money. At this same store is partly attened, I have $1 bills to break down $5's. have quarters to take in change for "whole quarters" The lady makes small changes as needed when she is there, but really, back to reaility, a trip to the mat is not impulse, so you can plan ahead. If you give an inch they will take a mile. The money spent on b2b would be better spent on vending equipment or games. If you think it make a big difference, it does not. I should know, and have every $20 bill breker customer in the town! And I do not. And after owning 7 mats and 19 years is not needed under my circumstances

From what you posted you already bought one, so unless you have an urgent need for the space, leave it and deal with it. You should not be having jam problems very often, if you are the bills are crappy, or something is out of adjustment. I handpick my bills, no dog eared corners, they must be somewhat stiff and of course no wrinkles.
I am considering making the b2b $10 output, so only someone breaking a $20 would use it, and the theory it puts more quarters in the hands of the customer. The other thought is almost everyone spends over $5, so really the $5 output is not needed. You have attended? You could always give the attendent some small bills to break down, or just say no, don't have any money on hand. I leave $16 and $2 of quarters. My lady changes as asked when she is there. Leave $300-$500 for an attendent to make change? No way, at least for me.

Pete,
Yes, my mat is attended, and I have American Bill to Bill ..I think it's AC2005 model...
I also think to dispense only $10 bills for cutomers, since I agree what you mentioned.
Do you know your machine can be adjustable to dispense two $10 bills only?
Thanks

I am sure it is very easy to adjust from 4 -5 per $20 to 2 - $10 per $20
