Besides Wascomat's, there are very few refurbishing efforts taking place. Used equipment just doesn't demand enough money to put cash into refurbishing it (especially dryers).

However, you can refurbish equipment yourself fairly easily. Pantning is cheap, parts bought in volume are reasonable, and your labor is "free". On the other hand, buying non-refurbished, but not too old, dryers on the cheap may be the way to go. I would strongly recommend the old Huebsch stacks (ex. 32DG) for durability. retaining their "looks", and ease of maintenance.

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't mind buying used if I could find a supplier for that either.

Howard, you mentions painting, I would like to paint the old dryers I have now because the are harvest gold and don't match the almond washers. Can you tell me what type of paint is best? I have seen some cheap appliance paint in spray cans before, but I don't think that will do a good job.

Reignmaker,

I have refurbished some wascos with painting. Sand them down a bit with an orbital sander then use rustoleum professional grade spray paint(sivler can). It comes in an almond color very close to wasco almond if your trying to match the dryers and washers. You can really only use spray pant though if your willing to take the time to break down all the parts, lay them out, spray and reassemble. I am thing of painting some of my dryers this summer, and will probably just do them by hand without breaking down the machine and spraying( they have a textured panel). The previous owner did this on some units with a latex enamel gloss and they look pretty good. You only tell the brush strokes if you look close.

I don't think there is much of a market for refurbished dryers. About the only thing a rebuild would encompass is a paint job and cleaning lint off the inside of the machine.

I painted 14 SQ slimlines with the Appliance White, rustoleum high temp 200 degree paint, about $6.00 per can. Used 3 cans of paint. Did minimal prep, washed the faces down, painted over almond yellow.

A year and a half later they still look great, no breakdown of the paint so far.

Last fall I purchased 3 used ADC 330 stack dryers from ADC that were from a bankrupt store in TX. Paul at ADC, or more correctly ADC's finance co American Credit, was a pleasure to work with and although there were some minor issues he took care of everything. All in all a very good experience.

If you are going to paint do it right, use a Catalized Acrylic Auto Paint. I use the NAPA brand of fleet finish. White about $60 per gal. and Gloss Catalist at about $14. If sprayed It gives you a finish as good as original and will last as long as the dryers do. Dust and lint are the bigest problem keeping them out of the paint.

Did I mention, I am a laundry owner? This obviously precludes that I have no idea what a catalytized paint is. Furthermore I painted these things while the place was up and running. I doubt it could be done with any "professional" setup. Surely even a peasant would know enough to sue for exposure.

Otherwise, I'd elect to simply have them dipped in a pool of powder coating.

Eather do it in the middle of the night, paint inplace about 4 hrs for 15 dryers or remove panels and paint ' behind the building " the method that I like best. Any good auto paint supplier can set you up with coatings and aplication. A cheep spraygum and compresser, and dust mask is all that is required.

We had a guy do 26 50lbs a couple of years ago. He did it just after closing and spent half the night for two nights. Cost about 1000 bucks, did a great job. I hated to see the turquiose green go though.......painted white and paint still on.
