Has anyone had any experience with the product that attached directly to the washer or dryer and accepts credit or debit cards? I believe there is a product out there made by set-o-matic listed in the jornal magazine.

I have had them for a year. I got them mostly to prevent employee skimming on WDF but put them in more cachines for customers and about 40 customers use them per week. I have had a problem with the computer boards breaking down. Also, I get a couple of charges rejected every week. The system is off line and can only check for a valid expiration date.

We will all be going to this way in the next few years. Our changers and coin boxes will not be able to hold enough quarters for someone to drop in $8 to start a washer at some point. I don't want to get stuck using a propritary system like netmaster or esd that does not have dual functionality of accepting mc/visa or get stuck with outdated software that will constantly need to have (and pay for) upgrades.
So it is with much interest that people respond here.

upgrade from quarters to dollar coins
both the changer and the washer vaults will hold near 4x as much money that way

Not a bad idea but society in general is turning cashless, so it only makes sense to pursue that avenue. once again, everyone has a credit or debit card in there pocket right now. it's the way the banks are training us to get, and spend our cash.

You guys ever think of credit cards to tokens and making the tokens a $1 value. Then you only have to have 1 or 2 credit card machines and reprogram the coin mech's for the tokens.

How can you keep these swipes clean. My customers are slobs. They are always spilling liquid soap, softener and bleach on top and down the front of frontloaders. As far as all customers having a credit or debit card, that depends on your area. I bet at least half of my customers could'nt even open a checking account.
If your customers can't open a checking account, you don't have to worry about taking debit cards.
Dubois. Hi there. Our problem with dollar coins is the government will never support the same coin for a length of time. I found myself driving to other towns to their banks to get dollar coins when our bank ran out. Then we started getting mixed SBA's with Gold Dollar etc. and it was confusing to the customer.
Bottom line to me - Did it increase business?
Did it?

mixed SBA's with Gold Dollar
I suppose I can understand *customers* have to look twice to tell the difference between quarters and SBA dollars.
Golden dollars will be around for a while (at least until we run out of commemorative presidents)
how about the machines? They are colorblind.
