I am working with a high school group that volunteers in a poor part of our city. This area is in sore need of a laundry mat and we have decided to open one. We have access to real estate at a very inexpensive rate and we have some investors interested in fronting the money for the project.

I am wondering if there is any company that rents out machines for laundry? Since most labor and real estate will be donated and the business will be run on a not-for-profit basis I am hoping that a for-profit company could rent us equipment on short term contracts? Any ideas?

Where are you in Ohio? I know of an owner that lease/rents Maytag equipment from a place, I think, out of Detroit. They provide maintenece and split the proceedes. I don't know a lot of the details, though.

try the yellow pages Laundry equipment

The cost of infrastructure for installing a laundromat is quite high, that is probably what will hurt your project. Besides zoning, impact fees, and utility availability, engineering, planning and permiting right down to how many shrubs have to be planted can really knock your head.
Sears sells basic laundry machines, and they have a charge account.

Investors want return and they won't see it in sufficent amounts with your idea. It's a nice idea for your group but I don't see it as fesable due to all the reasons Pete has listed plus 100 others. Good luck to you though.
