I just saw a store that is installing these beasts - they look huge. They are unlike any 50# dryer I have ever seen. They are extra wide and have a drum that is wide and shallow. The door must be about 40" wide. They are soo wide that I think you would only get two of them in the space that three normal dryers would go. Which begs the point, do they make sense. If you can only fit 100# of capacity in the space that you would have 90# with singles or 180# capacity with stacks I wonder what these things do to your return on investment.

Sometimes it is the customer's convenience and perception than return on investments. If customers see couple of huge dryers and they need to wash comforters they will come to your store. That is why we have different size washers.

I put 1 dexter 55 lb for 6 minutes, was very well received by customers. I did need to educate the customers though. Sometimes customers won't notice anything unless you "hit" them with it. But once they got used to using it, they loved it. the moral of the story is : competitve advantage, hot hot dryers increase customer retention.

You both make good points, perhaps I did not cleary explain myself. I agree with you, and I too have a 50# dryer for that exact same reason. My point was these 50# dryers have a much larger footprint than competitive 50# dryers. They take up much move floor space, so we as owners will not be able to install as many as with competitive dryers. Thus, our return per linear foot of floor space will be lower with these dryers, unless we are somehow able to extract 150% of the revenue from them that we would be able to obtain from a more normally sized 50# dryer.

I do not have any 50# dryers, but to try and give reason as to why anyone would put them in, with costs per Sq Ft always a factor, I look at the stack dryer as the greatest thing to hit the laundry biz. Now you can have 2 dryers for the space of 1 dryer. That means it takes less overall space for dryers now, so "they" can suck up a little extra on a big 50# hog or two..for that customer convienence. And with the average store being built in the 3500-4000 sq ft range, they got the room for these big dryers..

The new Wasco 50# dryers are very wide. They have GREAT curb appeal, HUGE doors that make you feel like you can crawl right in. Match one of these new Wasco TD 75# dryers with a Continental 75# washer and people would KNOW you mean BUSINESS!!! But if floor space is at a premium, they would be quite wasteful. You could probably get 3 ADC 50#'s in the same space as 2 Wasco 50#'s, and people would be just as pleased. I have 5 ADC 50#'s and 10 ADC stacks, and my 50#s are always going. People really love them.

I want to see an ADC stacked 50#. I'll be first in line for that one!
