I have a 230 stack dyer with glo bar ignition. My problem is the dryer will light and heat up on the first cycle and shut off then dryer calls for heat and glo bar comes on. The flame switch opens but the flame wont light. I replaced globar and flame switch still doesnt work.I tried repositioning the globar a bunch of times. I believe my gas supply is fine all my other dryers are working fine. I checked all connections to gas valve.Any help would be great Thanks Rich

Rich, You need to change the gas valve, the coils in side of it have failed....
the Part # is 140009 we have it a real good price go to our site and purchase it
www.amdry.com or call us ask for the Parts Dept. 508-678-9000.
Check out these newer stacks and singles we have...

Why would gas and burner light on the first time and then fail after the first try be the gas valve. I would try cleaning the burner. Plus you can usually feel in the vent if the gas valve opens and has flow. You must have the older upflow type with the glowbar. Many times lint collects in the burner and makes the gas flow go crazy. I have also seen the defector broken. I would check the gas flow by making sure the air vent on the burner was wide open. When the glow bar shuts off when the sensor is tripped the gas valve should open. Place your finger into the vent and find the orifice hole. You showed feel flow for a few seconds if the burner does not light then shut off. However getting a gas WC meter and verifing you static pressure would be even better. Knowing the burner lights I feel places a greater burden on verifying gas is or is not flowing when the burner does not light then assuming the gas valve is defective. The valve recommend is the high low type and yes the price shows list at $100.00 is great. I would find out if when these 3/8" are gone will there be anymore these dryers are at the age where support from the manufacturer may stop at anytime and replacement parts become hard or impossible to aquire. All other valves with this set up 1/2" list for $500-700 and other valves are in the same price range of $400-500 . Why are these so inexpensive.

could it be the coil(s) are bad? This is a common problem. I do not know what valve this dryer has, but they are all the same in terms of failure and cause. A dryer that light up and fails after is a coil or ignitor/ sensor from my experiiance.

Well I finally got to installing the gas valve and the dryer is working as of now.I will see if I get any complaints over the weekend. It was slow today so I tried running all of the dryers and checking them with digital thermometer. The dryers where all pretty close to each other except one. The dryers where all around 140 degrees on the glass. There was one that was 110 degrees. I didnt check into it yet. What do you guys think. I keep them pretty clean of lint. I just gave them a good cleaning about a month ago. I cleaned all the temp probes at that time. Thanks Rich

What happens is the coils get a hairline crack in them and when they are cold and haven't been energized they will pick up the plunger fine and work great but after a while when they get hot this hair line crack expands and it is not a nice tight fit for the coil to pick up the plunger and it doesn't pick up the plunger this is why it works
sometimes usually when cold or the first thing in the day and then doesn't work at other times.

I understand the possibility of cracked weak coils dropping out. Been there many times but making sure no gas was being given to the burner was a needed check before a gas valve which can be expensive is replaced. The problem seem as explained consistant and finding out if gas was going to the burner was a neccessary check. I have seem time and time again parts being changed and no improvement. Get the burner so they are getting proper air and gas flow before condeming a part thats whati try to ensure first.
