Saturday 2:20PM call from customer. Says her clothes are burnt. After discussion find out she had a sheet(s) and comforter in a SQ stack ST0 dryer. She says scortched spot. I assume the sheet got against the back and stayed there from the weight of the comforter. I asked if she pulled it out and fluffed every 10 mins, she did not respond and hung up.
Saturday 2:25 PM a customer calls says she lost $5 in dryer ( clothes did not dry) I question her, it drop to $4. I took her name and address. Quick, how many customer put $4 in a dryer? Most start off with 75 cent or $1 then check after done. Most will not put more money in a stone cold dryer after 15-20 mins. So the Lie is on. I question her more, what time she started the dryers, etc,. After checking the cams I see she ran it for 75 cents then put another $1 in it after adding clothes to the load, pulling stuff out as time went on. Then I see cust #1 with burned clothes is helping her and folding. I should mention I had a call at 2:10 from a customer saying a Maytag 60# washer had an error code ( confirmed later, drain issue, IE SUDS ) That customer told me she only out in 2 cups of Gain, I know the green "cup" that comes with the box represents 3 cups if you bother to look at it. Anyway, gang up time. I blow it all off, check the dryer and washer on the4 way to a hockey game a few hours later, everything working, I will send a few bucks to customer #1 for good will.

Sunday 1:50 PM Stop at mat #3 to check computer no of site connection to cam avail, find computer had shutdown and reset. While there a customer comes in and starts complains about the DRYERS from last week. After talking to her I determine she needed to put more money in them as there was no complaint "stone cold", just not dry. I gave her a couple bucks in quarters, she was loading many washers and it is near Christmas after all.. As I swept the floor waiting on the computer reboot, another customer dryer called me over, she had moved stuff from 1 dryer to the next. I felt the inside if the dryer she complain about, very hot. I said I don't think the dryer has failed, you need to out another quarter in it. Honestly, I have never really said all the right things to woman, she about blew up. I shrugged it off and discussed business with my cleaning lady. Just before the blow up lady was leaving I went over with a quarter to give her, she took and and smiled like nothing ever happen. I think,I got to get the heck out of here. I get home, settle in and I get a call from the same mat, another customer, She says my dryers are not working, like 4 of them. We all know 4 dryers will not fail at one time, I talk with her, she does not dispute the clothes are hot, just are not dry. She says she spent $20 on dryers already, I say you need to spend a little more. I have not changed anything about the dryers heat, price, for 3 years. ( I did convert to cash, went from 35 cent/ 10 min to 25 cent /7 min, is the same, but some do not see this) Anyway, she says she spent $75 so I say I can not make anything change, the dryers run as hot as allowed by the manufacture and more they catch fire and burn up. She says her son has to be somewhere at 6pm ( it is about 4pm now) and her 8 dryers full of clothes will not be ready by then. Then she says she use 6 big washers. Ok this was word problem. 35 x6 is 210 dry , make it 420 wet, so in 8 dryers 52 pounds per dryer ( 30#dryer) This customer was quite mouthy.
$75 less $20 spent on dryers is $55, so that means she needs to spend $27.50 ( 1/2 the cost of wash) to dry. She did complain I would not come down and give a refund.
How many of you blow off a $75 customer? I bet she will be back. It is just this weekend, I blame some on the cold front coming in. Might get to 38 tonight low 68 for a high tomorrow. I though all this crazy stuff happen at full moons!

I heard that German scientist researched and reported the followings:
human emotion changes at FULL MOON day...irregulary..up and down too much...
big tumbles...the cause is blood in human, the shape of blood changes from round to eclipse shape...so that emotion also dramatically changes....
so, the rate of car accident is reportely high during full moon day....
sueside rate also HIGH at full moon day....
thief rate also high....

Same here all weekend.. We had a cold front come through. No matter how many times you explain that it takes more time (and money) to heat 35 degree air than 100 degree air (Texas) they forget.. You're right, if it was easy everyone would do it.

I have been fighting a losing battle every winter... heating -30 to -40 degree celsius air is a hard job for any dryer, especially when the previous owner pulled all the backdraft stop covers off... Spending this week cleaning ducts (horribly plugged), total overhaul on all dryers, installing two-tiered backflow stops (1 at rear of dryer, 2nd outside at exhaust)... Customer complaints peaked last month, but now I'm getting the job done, improvements already...

I try to control my air intake, but then not enough air = no dry...

I wish it were easier, but then everybody would do it!!! (right Pete?)

what part of the great white north are you from? Kind of early for -40 c even for the northen states, where I used to live! Sounds like you are really finding out just how easy it is!

My current favorite is the note that states the customer lost $35 in the change machine. Last time I checked, there is not a $35 bill. So let's think this through - the minimum combination would be a $20, $10, and $5. Now what customer would continue to use the same changer, when there is a second one right next to it, when they lost one of any of those denominations? I will not be calling the number on the note...

I feel your pain on the dryers. I spent many, many years in the restaurant business. Here was the rule of thumb - the more specific the complaint, the more likely it was true. Thus "this entree is terrible" merits a "I'm sorry we did not meet your expectations, here's your bill, door is over there" vs. "this entree is cold, too salty, and is not as described on the menu" got a comp'd meal.

So, "my clothes did not get dry" is not the same as "this dryer is not getting hot".

You are a pro, let the dregs go.

the post was really a poke into the life and times, you know. I like the restraunt tip.

Sometimes you think you had seen it all, and yesterday someone leaves me this out of order slip: washer #K ( an 18# Maytag) as written and grammer
""Clothes didn't get Clean they came out just as Dirty. I'm using the White Washes to See how they do. I come in Thursday night around 9:20PM-9:30PM ""

I got to give some sort of credit? for actually leaving a note like this. I assume he packed the washer full and all his clothes just turned round and round and never agiate. I will probably call and offer some wash tips. Call me soft, it is near Christmas. Maybe even 1/2 a refund ( $1) if his attitude is good.
