when to give special X-mas/year end bonus

I am planning to give my employees special X-mas/year-end bonus, what date would be the best day to give? 12/24? 12/25? 12/31?....or before 12/24?

I always gave them on a friday around the 15th. That allows them to use the money to purchase gifts, etc..

I give them 1 weeks pay if they have been with me for a full year, if not I will pro rate it. Cash. I only have cleaning helpers, so no differences, except maybe hourly rates between mats.
