I looked up that word and couldn't find it in the dictionary. What are you talking about?
Duncan is the company that makes them..apparently they have electric, water supply, drain all built and fabricated to accomodate X amounts of machines. In a new construction scenerio, you would attach main supply(hot and cold), drain, mail electric and that's it. I too searched the web for them but couldn't find much on it.
There's a person in an different forum that's selling them. he describes it as follows:
"They contain the water supply lines with all the shut offs, and the electric. Each bulkhead has it's own circuit breaker box, with each machine on a separate breaker.
All you need to do is connect your hot and cold water lines (inch and a half) copper, and electric service to the breaker box provided.
To install the machines, just hook up the fill hoses, and plug the machine in. (the triple loaders are wired for 220, and would need wired into the boxes.)"
Duncan Fabrication - Birmingham, Alabama. Available ONLY from Distributors or used in the journal from time to time. Some folks will say that they are expensive, however if you look at the true time savings of installation time ($) they become a wash. They also are financable if needed.

Bulkheads are obscenly expensive. Mostly because the profit margin to the distributors is huge. The manufacturers protect the distributors, so you cannot buy them direct. A $10,000.00 bulkhead has at most $500-$800 in hardware and material.

Well I think if say an 8ft. bulkhead cost me more than $200, I will just make one myself. They don't look like rocket science material to me. ;)

Does anyone know of a company that builds bulkheads in California? OR
Do you have to rely on the distributors builder?
I do not have the time to build them myself.
Please advise. Thanks :)

Clothes Tyme -
Check out R. J. Papalini (?). They adverise in the Journal and are located in California. They usually work through manufacturer's reps who'll come to your store, take the measurements, give you a quote, and do the installation. By the way, this is not an endorsement of their product, just a lead you can check out.

I looked at the Duncans. Great stuff. Real expensive. Finally built my own out of treated lumber for about $800 (including labor) instead of $12K.

I will be real honest with you on this one. I looked at Duncan and one other place and really couldn't justify $4000+ per bukhead. So here is what I did. I bought $300 worth of angle Iron and welded it together myself!! I bought $60 worth of unistrut and used it to support my incomming water as well as electric conduit. It is far more sturdy and much less expensive!!!!
