I have a 4 year old Dexter stack Dryer that doesn't turn,
Door switch works, control board works, all the proper lights on the control board light up except for the (UPPER GAS). In manual test mode the bottom works fine but the top unit doesn't turn?
Why isn't the gas light going on? I don't think it's a bad gas valve? (could it be?) i'm thinking it must be a safety item problem like temp probe, hi limit switch?
I only had about 5 minutes to look at the problem this morning (never seen this problem thou)
thanks to everyone that replies with any ideas
thanks again and all the best Adam

did you try the high limit switch? If it needs reset the problem could be deeper.
Use a pencil eraser end, stick in the hole that is nest to the little box on the right side of the burner on the back of the dryer. If it clicks the switch was triggered., but your dryer will work. IF no reset them could be relays on the computer board. These are the 2 most common problems.

If drum wont turn - look for a split belt in the back.

1. Check reset (back of the dryer)

2. Check upper relay inside the computer board.

3. Check broken(cut) wire inside the front panel(take the panel off)** most of the time this is it**

4. check belts.

it turned out that three wires got burnt
The belt was rubbing the steel conduit that has three wires (blue, white, red) that comes off the motor. Replaced the three wires and everything has been fine since

Thanks. I have to say this is a new one to me, but always like to have info for future reference. Was the motor every pulled from this unit?

yes,
All the dryer motors at this particular mat were replaced under warranty.
The problem was the technician didn't place the belt in the proper location (I have no idea how to explain it or what the part is called i'll try though)
When you take the motor out, the motor shaft has two pieces on it, the fan and the round part that the motor pulley goes on. The belt was placed right infront of the motor pulley ( on the shaft of the motor)
I've made this mistake a few times changing motors myself so it's really no big deal (this is the first time though that it caused a problem except for premature belts going out).
thanks Adam
