super80,
I may be wrong, biut I think that "pin" is metal, not plastic. Check with Dexter Tech Support to be sure. Also, pick up a few extra "pins" from a distributor and use one of the new pins like a punch to dislodge the old pin from the channel to a point where you can get it with a pliers...

To my knowledge there is no metal handle opition. As to removal of the pin, it makes it easier if you use a length of 2x4 cut to fit between the handle and the floor to support the handle while you are whacking it...it also prevents you from bending the hinge out of whack.

super80,
Measure the diameter of the pin, then go to a hardware store and buy a hex-head bolt (or equivalent) of slightly smaller dimension than the pin and use that as a punch, making sure to prelubricate the pin already in the door handle with WD40... And use the 2x4 that Joseph recommended....
