Last year I had two business checking accounts, one personal checking account and one personal savings acount with Wells Fargo.

I was geting fleeced for charges in general and had one month when my laundry account was fee'd $37.00.

I purchased about a dozen cashiers checks during the year at $8.00 each also.

When it came to mortgage my new home, they held up a transfer of about $60,000 that ended up delaying my close by two weeks.

During this time I told the bank manager that I would close all of my accounts by the end of the year (last year) and of course I did, however first I did something to get even.

I gave them a sack of quarters with only $900.00 in it and deposited it as $1,000.00. I waited about 6 weeks and closed all accounts. They never caught it.

I now have a better idea for catching up with the bank and am waiting for my new bank to piss me off to justify the attempt. I'll let you know how it goes.

I had almost the same thing happen last year with U.S. Bank. I had gone through a refinance and deposited a title company check for around $20,000.00. I asked the teller at the bank if there would be any problems since it was so large. I was told no it wouldn't be. I wasn't too worried since it was written on another U.S. Bank account. Well they put a hold on the funds until it cleared and returned a bunch of checks I wrote. I kept calling and they kept telling me the check had not cleared the other end, when I checked and it had. They basically didn't give a rats behind about it.

I switched everything to a smaller bank and I laundry accounts don't get charged anywhere near the fees.

My bank counts loose change before it is deposited, no charge of course. I wouldn't want to jack my bank as I am a shareholder.

Shop around.

With several accounts and value in them, look for a bank that has a division for personnal banking, private banking, etc ...

There are many reginal banks that will give you consolidated statments and services because they want your business and you have the potential (if not already) of a high net worth. Net - being total of everything (business and personnel).

These services make financing a breeze and limit fees. Since they have the whole picture, it is easier to qualify for mortgages, credit lines, and credt cards. I'm NOT charged for cashiers checks, travelers checks, and overdraft protection is based on you total account values. If you over draw one account, your not charged because the bank knows your other accounts have value. Plus, you usually will have one person to call for problems or information. What a credit line - call your contact and they will take care of the work and fax the forms to you. Let them run around to all the different departments to figure out the details.

Last month bank service charge 58.30, not including the 24.95 for internet banking. Service is better than it has been, but it is still sorely lacking. The cost was so much more until we switched the "type" of account we had. How do you get the no fee checking? BDs not the type to threaten to move his business, he'll just do it. He recently asked why he can't get better service, as well as lower service charges. We can't even seem to get the canvas bags to bring the deposits in. It has become a hassle to bank with them, the tellers certainly do like to see us. Its not that I do not sympathase, with them but counting currency is part of the job description. Service and charges should be better

If your bank is not willing to work will a good business customer and they charge usurious rates, then move on. Would your customers still do laundry at your place if you were both overpriced and had poor service? I think not!

$24.95 for internet banking! Now that is a total rip-off.

I'm surprised with the dificulties people are having with their banks. Cash accounts are good for a bank. As far as convienence items like bags, coin and bill wraps, whenever I needed some , I simply asked the teller. I usually get a handfull of assorted vales and a smile. I have asked for canvas bags twice. Each time I recieved one.

Everyone should buil;d a report with their branch manager. They should know you when you stop in, especially if you frequent the same branch. I primarily use one and I don't know the manager there. I recently moved across town. But, I also make deposits throught the city, all depends on the earnds I'm running.

Well after speaking with the financial rep, it is the cash thing that strikes against us. They charge according to every check and every 100 dollars worth of cash. Which I think is BS or at lease the need to do so for all depositers. Dave has all his eggs in this one basket. All notes, personal accounts, business accounts, and stock in the bank.

Still, as one who saw execs kiss business account holders asses in another bank when I was employed, I know BDs accounts would be wanted.

We always get the wrappers, and whatever else we need, with the exception of the canvas bags. The fed is currently discarding of the canvas bags, at least that is what our branch says. They say not to use the plastic fed bag as that is only for the loose change ready for a straight shipment to the fed. We have had to bring deposits in buckets because they are not supplying us with the canvas bags. Thus the feeling that were being ignored and unappreciated.

Its great to deal with a small bank that cares about you, plus they normally have lower fees. Everyone knows me at my local branch and are super friendly. When I needed checks the other day I just poked my head in the managers office and said I needed some new checks for the business, that was it and a few days later they showed up at my door.

When I wanted a home equity loan I told her and she filled out all the papers did all the busy work and just had me come in for 10 minutes one day and sign a bunch of stuff and that was it.

To add to Kirby's small banking feel. I too am using a small, local bank. I started with the big guys and was amazed at the fees that they charged (for example, per check, per $100 of cash deposits, base monthly charge, etc.).

The only thing that my local bank requires is a small, minimum compensating balance. The manager even dropped off the canvas deposit bags on her way home one day.

In addition, the loan officer is willing to talk to me about business credit lines after I'm open for only 3 months - the big guys wanted 2 years!!

Everyone knows me, knows BD. Daves Dad was on the BOD. ITs small town usa........ I can ask for the deposit tickets, more checks, we always get it, but the service is not anything to write home about. It is accurate to say the tellers, hate to see us. No one likes to count the currency anymore. I hate doing it on our end, I sympathise. Its hard to be happy to see work coming straight at you, but hell they could fake it!

Dave has a meeting with the branch manager and the teller supervisor. He has finally voiced his disappointment with service. There are too many business associates of his, finally validating what I have said in the past, as to demand better services for less banking fees! We'll see what is said Friday, I'll update. K

You all need to find a credit union and run from the banks. No fees for check or cash deposits, no charges for reasonable deposits of quarters, and they PAY me interest on my money..not fees. I get a 1098 from them every year...I make about $70-80 each year..thats a savings of around $400 over a bank !

BD knows he needs to change..... if they do not put out, during this meeting on Friday....... Anyone wanna take some bets? I bet it is all BS that goes across the table, they'll state that they will do this and we'll implement this, but in actuality, nothing will be done at all.

small bank or big bank?
I use Bank of America, originally my bank was another name years ago. My branch gives me wrappers, boxes, cashiers checks, free interent banking, deposit slip, checks, anything I want. I can't imagine paying for any of this, they are sitting on your money. I do bring in qtrs all wrapped, stuck in the $500 boxes.
When I have wanted credit lines, mortgages, or any money I never filled out an application. Now, there is somethign I do some of you may not agree with, but all my accounts are personal, I have no "business" accounts. Banks like to stick it to small business, I learned that years ago. My accounts are in my name, except a couple credit lines. There is no law that says you have to use a business account, especally for cash deposits. I do have my main checking as an interest paying account, but with such low interest it does not make much, but still, you could not do that under a corporate name. I have a corporation, just it does not have a bank account.
