I need to replace 2 drain valves on 2 of my machines.
The first one doesn't fill up with water, the water just runs out the drain. Looks like the drain valve is open and not closing.

The second machine drains very slow. The drain valve looks to be almost closed and doesn't open.

My question is what is a good aftermarket drain valve to purchase ? I see the dependo and pancake style. What is the difference between them ?

Yup if you look in the premium forum you just might see the light.

How much is it Worth to a few bucks now or a couple of hundreds later.

As a seasoned wascomat owner I have been known to fix this problem.

Now which kind of drain is it???

Do you no ? a flap - a ball cock a ???? yes there is another.

It's just not working is just not enough information.

Is it a spring a hunk of gunk - a motor hmmmmmmm

This is the easiest machine and the best of it kind --

Please, if you don't know what you are talking about then leave it for someone who does.

The second picture is not a valve for your machine.
The first is a aftermarket dependo valve replacement for the pancake valve you have now. I would recomend you say with the current pancake valve.

It is not necessary that you replace the whole valve but rather just replace the components that are defective. Most of the time it is the motor and gear/ spring that is bad a relatively cheap fix. Less than $20.

BTW, the differnce between them is the one has a ball valve and the other is a pancake.

VicG - valve #1 likely has a bad spring, pin, or motor. Valve #2 is likely clogged with a bra wire and a bunch of lint.

Remove valve #2 from the machine. DO NOT remove the rubber boot from the drum, leave it hanging there. You will catch heck getting it back on the drum if you do.

Clear the junk from #2. Then study it carefully. Now look at #1. Is it obvious what the problem is? Pin? Spring? If not, swap the drains. That will tell you if the motor on #1 is bad.

I pulled both drain valves out of the machines today.

Again, #1 doesn't close, thus not allowing the machine to fill up.
#2 doesn't open all the way and the machine drain very slow. There is no debris or anything like that as far as I can see.

Can I test them on the bench ?

Vic you have two options well actually four options

1-Either repair the existing valves
2-replace the whole valve
3-get a service tech to fix the issue for you
4-do nothing and have the machine broken

We,I have already told you all we can, what more do you want from us?
Now it is up to you, none of us can fix it over the internet.

The tips we gave you work 99% of the time. If they are not working for you it is time to call the repairman. Don't replace the valves, they might not be the problem...

Today, I pulled a working drain valve from a machine and swapped it into the machine where the water just drained out and didn't fill the machine. This fixed the problem, the machine fills with water now and runs fine now.

So now I have determined that the drain valve I pulled out was stuck open and not closing at all. Can it just be the motor on this valve that is shot , thus not closing the valve ?

BTW, I have good basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills. This is my first store and I my learning these Wascomat Gen4's.

Study the valve carefully. Three possible problems: spring, pin, motor. Is the spring broken? Is the pin broken? Plug it back into a working machine. Does the motor work?

I am not an advocate of parts swapping, but you are not talking about alot of money for any of these. Might be faster to just swap out the parts than try to troubleshoot...

Well today I purchased the 3 parts you had suggested. When I took the drain valve apart, the Pin was broken. Put new Pin in and put the valve back togeather. Installed it in the machine and works fine.

Now, the second drain valve is really bad. The plate that it sits on is rusted, I am unable to remove half the bolts. On this one the Pin and Spring look ok, must be a bad motor.

Thanks very much to all.
