Can anyone give me some insight on which is better, Speed Queen or Wascomat. I have heard from both distributors. I would like some feedback from actual users of both products. I am going to be opening a new laundromat soon.

I like Maytag best but if I had to pick between the two. I would go with Wasco. When you build your new mat, I would go with one company to me if you have a couple of different brands it shows that you just buy anything that is cheap. (This may not be the true picture but your customers have a mind of their own) Just ask around about the new wasco dryers, I believe they have been only on the streets for a short time.
Good Luck

Dave and I were just discussing machines yesterday. He was stating the fact that the Maytag was much easier to replace the bearings than the wasco. Of course, a bearing job is after many years of use usually and it is not probably a reason to justify a purchase, but I think that was a reason for him. We have wasco, Maytags and Heubsch. I beleive the Heubsch is a Speed Queen? Personally, I like the Heubsch. I don't like the style of the openings on some of the wascos (they may have changed styles since our last purchases) and I do not like to clear the dump valve on a wasco. It is much more difficult than the Huebsch. The last 35lbers we got from Heubsch has a 4" drain versuses the 3". That has been good. Not so many clogged valves, those bra wires and debit cards must be washing through? We currently are in need of replacing the bearings on the W124's that are 15years old. He expects to get another 5 years out of them. Since we just started purchasing the Huebsch machines I do not know the life expectancy of these. The wasco seems to be like a timex, they are a good solid machine, with the exception of how I feel about the opening, and the drain valve. Price is also a consideration, I believe the Huebsch is several hundred dollars cheaper too.

In addition to comparing machines also compair what your competitor has. For example, I've got my eyes on 3 prospective locations. For each locations, I'm going to put different brands of machines. For customers image, reliabilty, price, heat is everything. For owners, they want to do less work as possible on the machines. I like dexters because they are big and spin at higher G-force than other washers. Wasco's are gaining grounds in our geograhical area and there are lots of wasco lovers on this post - service and support is excellent according to them. I'm also looking into continentals because of their appearance and g-force.
I'm considering different machines with various options not from owner prospective but from Customer's prospective. Ask yourself, if I build it will they come and will they stay?? Humans are creature of habit, will you be able to change their habit?
Look at competative edge(i.e. extractors, bigger space, better service, ac, etc...), if you're looking in a area where there are other stores.

Maytag doesn't make their large front loader, they were made by IPSO,UniMac before. Most were UniMac.Primus make large waher for Maytag right now.
SQ,Hubsch bought UniMac a few years ago,SQ, Hubsch,UniMac and Older Maytag are the same machines. They are all made by UniMac.If you like older Maytag, you will like new SQ.
Before SQ bought UniMac ,They had Ametek(Big Boy),.Primus(Supermat) ,Continental and Dexter made their machine.
Dexter had Primus made some of their machines before.
Wascomat make their own machines.
Which company make the macines more important than the name on the machines!
I like Wascomat gen4,don't know much about gen6.

Brand may make a difference to most owners, but most customers could care less. If you ask customers what brand machine is in a store 9 out of 10 times they cannot tell you. They care that they are clean and they work, that is all.
I agree with Kirby, customers are for the most part unattentive to the manufacturer of laundry equipment.
Washers wash clothes! However, the washer chosen by the store owner makes a BIG difference in their lives. It can be simple to repair (when needed or be difficult), it can offer vend price flexibility (with greater profit potential) or not, the can last for 25 PLUS years or be ready for the junk yard in 7 years.
Given the choice you ask about...Wascomat.

Didn't someone (Kirby?) once post about a customer that threw their dirty clothes and detergent into a dryer? I used to stress about the choices I was making until I realized that customers can't really tell the differences in machines - owners barely can at all!!

Wascomat has a great name here, I have my quirks about the machines but they are work horses. Who's got what and how old do you have?
