I got only one old Dexter T400 ( at least 12 years old). I have some problem with its handle:
1. Customer always confuse the way to close the door. You have to turn the handle from 3-o'clock position to 6-o'clock postion to activate the coin drop slot. The problem is you can turn the handle in opposite way to lock the door, however you can not drop the coin with this wrong way.
2. When machine run, the handle is lock if you turn it counter clockwise as it supposed to do. But I still can turn the handle clockwise to open it.
3. When I start dropping some coins in ( not complete the amount yet), I still can open the door. And if I leave the door open for about 1 minute, all the amount dropped before the open is erased.

Anybody with Dexter T400 have this problem? Or this is the way it is designed?
Thanks

I have a couple older Dexters.. and have no problems.
The coin drop switch can be disconneted so people can add coins before they shut the door. Once the door is shut it should not be able to be reopened after the machine starts, as I read your comments yours does?

Not sure about #3 on the list.. again, ajay may be right, you may have a door alignment problem with the seloniods and stuff.
I would call Dexter for advice.

On the Dexters the stops for the handle are cast into the door when it is made. Over time and mistreatment the stops wear out and the door itself must be replaced to correct the problem. I have had several go bad at about that age. 10-12 years.

As Tom said I had to replace the door rings because of customers slaming the doors instead of just locking them. I had one guy come in when I was in my office and I heard a gigantic crash, I ran out to see what the noize was and just caught the guy about to slam the door again, I walk over and gentle lock the door and said to him this is how you lock the door, and he then told me "if I would have got another leg in it, it would had locked"

You have to replace the door ring only, but while your at it, look at your gasket and see if it needs replaced. The rings are expensive so shop around.

Tom, Rondo
I found the stop cast on the door broken like u guy said. I ordered a new ring form Laundry Parts ($140.00). It's really expensive. For safety, I have to change it anyway.
Thanks all

The new ring is an improved design that is thicker where the first one broke. I was putting used doors on until I figured this out. The new ones have yet to fail. There is a kit if you have the old white pushbutton T400's that will bypass the door having to be locked before it counts the coins. Only a few $$ and easy to install.
