Hi I am looking at purchasing an existing maytag store. Right now it is doing $19,000 month. machine mix is 25 tops and 10 front loaders uses 225000 gallons of water a month I can add 6 more dryers by replacing 6 singles with stacks giving me 30 dryers no problems ( will have to check on fuel line size. and provide make up air. ). So my problem is getting rid of those tops. I could replace with Maytag Neptunes or replace one side with 20LB fronts leaving tops on other side to allow future access to back of front loaders, or put in 20s and just unbolt from floor if need to access back. or put in new tops that are energy savers. lastly do nothing and just run like it is. QUESTION IS have any of you encountered this dilemma and what was your solution. tearing out and starting over is not a solution for me

I took over a large store a couple years ago that had more than 30 Tops. I'm down to twenty, now. While it is near a college, I always suggest to those using many tops that the doupbles are a better deal and with other adjustments to their habits, the 30 # Fronts can save them time and money. This is re-educating. It is working. My fronts get much more use for the college crowd. Last week changed pricing from 1.50 to 1.75 CW and 2.00 for Hot water. Will push pricing again for the top loads in late spring.

Personally I would look at replacing banks. I would not take all the toploaders at once. Customers are used to them. Also look at where the quarters are. If no one is using frontloaders more might not be the answer! Generally neptunes are not much better than normal top loaders, in life expectancy and come with a set of issues, however most stores look for them.

Unless it is trashed turning % of the equipment once you know what is running is a great plan. Frontloaders with tops behind for access is always a good plan if there is no access. unbolting is never fun.

One last thing is just because there where machines does not mean they must be replaced. I have A mat in a small town that was 100% overbuilt with machines. He is in the process of replacing some equipment with folding tables and other with snack machines and video games.... Make sure you are where you need to be when busy. However there are many mats I see that even at their busiest are only at about 25-50% capacity....

Store is doing $19,000 per month? Don't do a thing, just buy it!
