I have three Whirpool top loads that are three years old. I was just wondering what the expected life span is for these washers. They have given me great service so far but I am expecting breakdowns soon. Just how much money do you put into these machines before you pruchase new ones.

Two things: lid switches and motor couplers.

Maytags will replace MAT12 topload and Neptune with new cheaper models by years end. Currently the expected life cycle of the products was about 15,000 cycles, the new units will about half of that. Of course the prices will be cheaper as well. Whirlpool is not saying but I woould bet some will be built in Mexico or elsewhere on the cheap. If you're looking for new machines, buy'em now.
