I am trying to get a grip on water useage for a laundromat I purchased last year. Does anyone know what the W74,W124,W184 use for gallons per wash.
I called wascomat they dont have the answer for W124 or W184.
They say the W74 uses between 69-162 gallons per wash depending on temperature????? Does not seem right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They nominally use 2 gallons for each pound of capacity. Thus, a W74 which is an 18# machine will use roughly 36 gallons of water. What type of clothing is in the machine and how much will have a slight impact on this. The other factor to look at is these machines come from the factory with 5 cycles: Prewash, Wash, Rinse1, Rinse2, Rinse3 (I lied - there is also an extract). The five cycles each use 1/5th the total water. I mention this as some owners eliminate the prewash, or cut our one or two of the rinses. So, if your machines have been adjusted they will be using that much less water. As an example if you have no pre-wash then you will only be using 4/5th of the 2 gallons per pound or 1.6 gallons per pound capacity.

Thank you very much for the reply. I believe the washers are still at factory settings.I would be interested in knowing how to adjust the settings to possibly lower water consumption. Has anyone tried this??? If so what was the customer feedback????

I have eliminated the prewash on washers without complaints. However, it is easier on some machines than others. The Wasco Gen 4 machines have the prewash on the cycle indicator, so it might cause problems if it is skipped. The elimination of prewash works best on washers that have solid state timers and no cycle dial.
As for eliminating rinses, it would work OK if customers used the correct amount of detergent, but most use 2 to 10 times more than necessary. For these oversudsers you need as many rinses as possible to get the soap out. Otherwise you will be asked for free rewashes.

Come on Winston only 10 times, everyone uses 10 times the challange is when they use a whole box. Yep new record, a whole box of Tide in one load, and no not the vend box but the small box of Tide you but at the Supermarket! So why is that we worry so much about the price of a wash when they are willing to spend 4 or more dollars for soap? I digress, I have W74's and they use around 35 gallons of water for the cycle. What it sound to me like is you need to but up a sign that tells the customer what they are getting for the extra money you charge over a top loader, hey that is a better idea get rid of the top loaders and watch your water bill go down....
PS the new electronic Wascomats allow you control the amount of water that goes into each cycle. And they can all be different. Now that is handy. We have 1 su640e and just purchased 3 more.
