I'm looking to install a water sub meter to get a better handle on usage. I'm wondering if I was to install a 3/4" sub meter coming out of the hot water tank into a 1.5" pipe, will reduce my hot water pressure going to the washers?

Thanks for your help in advance

The question as asked cannot be answered, as you have not determined what your water flow is (I know that is what you are trying to figure out). If you are running one gallon per minute through the pipe there is no impact, if you are trying to move 100 there definitely will be. Bottom line, calculate what the maximum flow rate would be if all machines are running and check the specs for the meter.

Cleancloths is correct...if you restrict your 1 1/2" pipe down to 3/4" you will reduce the amount of flow without question.

In fact, the flow through a 3/4" pipe is about 25% of what the flow through a 1.5" is.

Check codes. I know someplaces that would be a concern!

Second slowing the flow will lenghten cycles.....

I bought a 1 1/2 inch meter for a decent price. Check out:

Please Tell them you saw their link on Coinwash.com

Based on your comments, it is best to put in the right size meter than to reduce the flow.

Thank you gentlemen
