I was told from other owner that normally the business is very busy on 12/31 since this is the last day of year and the reason is people don't want to keep dirty clothes in home and they wan to see new year with cleaned clothes...is this true??

There is a superstition among some people that it is bad luck to enter the new year with anyting dirty in the house. So expect to see blankets, drapes, etc. being washed. If you are not open 24 hours consider staying open later to accomodate the customers.

NewYears eve itself has never been a record braker for me, But the week between Christmas and New Years has always been the best week of the year.

Superstition among the black population in the south, that to enter the new year with dirty clothes and dirty house - means you will have a dirty house all year if not done.

New Years Eve is busiest day of year. With that being on a Sunday this year - I expect all weekend will be extremely busy.

as TLR wrote, the year end deal is a ethnic one. We will be working Sunday this year, though planning on taking Sat off., and having that interupted:)
We did restock changer, bill to bill, etc for the "rush" in 2 stores that are most likely to be part of this. It started before Christmas already, but it gets waiting line style at the end. I had a call today a cust left a washers unattended and someone wants to use them, I said put the stuff in a cart, I am not running a hotel for clothes! Use the washers freely!

Because both Xmas Eve and NYE fell on a Sunday, both days were particularly busy, especially in the morning.

My stores are closed on Xmas day and NYD.

For the last 3 years, Thanksgiving has been the bust holiday. I am adding Thanksgiving to my "closed" list for 2007.
