Every month when my water and sewer bill comes in I get P :-( :-( :-( ed.
According to my bill I used 209 one hundred cubic feet of water. Is it correct to say that I used 209000 cubic feet of water that would convert to 156,332 gallons of water (one cubic foot of water = 7.48 gallons of water)????
Anyway my water bill was $222.70 (water plus taxes) BUT MY SEWER BILL WAS $634.01.
That what P :-( :-( :-(es me off. That my sewer bill is three times larger than my water bill.
What really sets me off is that my sewer bill is calculated by my water usage. BUT I am not putting 100% of my water in the sewer. A percentage of my water usage is evaporated out through my dryers.
Okay. Its Friday and its almost 5:00 o'clock (must be five some where’s) I need to claim down.
In other parts of the country how is your sewer bill calculated. Should I be so upset about my water and sewer bill compared with other cites accross the USA?

Hope you feel better now, and yes, it's 5'oclock somewhere :)
My water bills are about the same, cost 3x water to get rid of it ( sewer)
Water is free, you just have to pay for delivery system, sewer, on the other hand, cost money to treat and dispose of. Or at least I am guess this is the case. There are a few owners who have challanged the water in /sewer out for mats and have got a reduction.:eek::eek: has a study on it, I tried to use it at one of my local municipality and got nowhere. It suggest about 3% of the water never goes down the drain.
For you that is about $20 month extra you pay. I am sure your city will thank you for your your extra contribution if they do not lower your sewer rate!
I just got my trim notices for the properties, most went up double from last year! Wonder if the city will cut the millage rate to help compensate! Wonder what they will do with all that extra real estate tax they collect they never planned on?

Gladly trade sewer bills with you. My water rate is very high and my sewer bill is about 4.5 times water.

I have the same aggravation. I posted a poll on it on this board awhile back...most people couldn't understand the issue and therefore posted incorrectly on the poll, but the jist of it was that my sewer bill is also calculated at 100% of my water usage (-- I said water usage, not $ billed, so no one respond incorrectly again please) and I was trying to figure out exactly what you asked (whether this was the case across the country). It's especially frustrating for me since I run three big evap coolers all summer and none of that water is going into the sewer.
Anyhow, I contacted all the local government officials. They finally got back to me and said "they really appreciated my input and will consider it at the next rate setting meeting". Not holding my breath.

I have the same issues. The sewer costs are more because of the treatment of the water. I had actually gone to the Town Board and debated with them because of the fact that the dryers take out most of the water and therefor it does not go into the sewer system. I even brought them proof of certain cities that compensate for that, however they did not want to budge....and get this, my water/sewer bill every six months is never below $5K. WOW! Let me know if you would like me to send you the information and the report i brought to the Town Board.....

In San francisco they only use 90% of the water total to calculate the sewer bill. They figure 10% of the water used doesn't actually go down the sewer.
