Reckless: the fireman inside the tumble dryer

An investigation is under way after a fireman was filmed climbing into a tumbler dryer and being spun around for a prank.

The uniformed man is seen climbing into a large industrial drying machine believed to be at a fire station in Greater Manchester.

With colleagues urging him on, clothes are packed inside to protect himself from the metal sides.

Hysterical laughter

As the door is closed the dryer is turned on with the fireman tumbling over inside while his workmates laugh hysterically.

When the door is opened the unsteady firefighter climbs out and complains of feeling dizzy.

But the prank has now landed the fireman in trouble.

The episode was filmed on a mobile phone and a copy of it was sent via email to the service's top boss, County Fire Officer Barry Dixon.

Potential disciplinary action

The fireman involved faces possible disciplinary action and could now lose his job. Other fireman who took part could also face action.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, said: "An investigation is under way and there is potentially disciplinary action.

"It is blatantly obvious that getting into a tumble dryer, especially of industrial design, is not only foolish, but dangerous in the extreme."

Investigators have already established that the machine is of the type used until recently on stations to clean firefighters' clothing. It is believed the footage was filmed within the last six months.

Fire kit in the brigade is now sent away to a contractor to be cleaned, but the machine in the film may have been kept on a station for small-scale cleaning, such as towels.

The Mail online has obtained a copy of the video of the deadly incident, showing the fireman climbing into the giant dryer having put clothes inside to protect himself from the heat.

That fireman hadn't realized that is the vary same kind of stupidity that provides job security for the fire/ems services.

I'm pretty sure our Chief would dish out some discipline.

Too funny.
