Does anyone have experience with the Maytag 18 lbser?

Is the 18 lbser as realiable as Mayag 35 lbsers?

Buying a Primus made Maytag washer is setting yourself up for hurt when it come time to purchase parts. There are few substitute parts available which mean Maytag has a vitual lock on it. Which in turn means higher prices. So, figure it out. And with Whirlpool purchase of Maytag who knows what will be of the commercial division and it products. A little shaky if you ask me.

I have one store that has 9 in it, been running strong for 1.5 years, no problems. In 3.5 when the warranty is out then I worry about parts prices!
The one thing I found is the 18# is high price compared to other 18# hard mounts from other manufactors. The Maytag seems to be fine in the 40/60# range price wise, but the small stuff is high.

MSK,

I love my 35, 50 & 80 lbser Maytag washers and the five year parts warranty is the best in the industry. I recieve great surport from my Maytag distributor.

I am in the planing stage of building a 2nd laundry. I think I want all hard mont washers that is why I am considering the 18 lbsers Maytag.

My question is does anyone have the Maytag 18 lbser's and what is their experience with these washers?

My personal experience with the 18# Maytag (Primus) washer in particular has been bad.Very few bearing problems with 25's and up. For some reason some 18# washers have premature bearing failure. Usually around the 2 year mark Give or take. Now this is coming from a tech (me) who was working for a Maytag Dist for many years. I saw and continue to see many many stores and see first hand the failures. So I ask you who you gonna believe, 1 or 2 store owners or a service tech who has been around the block? Try doin a bearing job on your Maytag washer, Enjoy!!! I say go ahead buy them and keep a bookmark to this thread and in two years +/- we shall see how many bearing problems you have.

I have experiance with SQ, Dexter and Maytag., the Maytag having only 1.5 yrs of service. If you are going to do another store and equip it with Maytag, then the 18's make sense, even though they cost more. Everything matches. I have remodeled my last store with mostly new Maytag washers, but did buy some used Dexter 18's to replace the 25 yr old Wasco 73's, mostly becuase they have the same bolt pattern and made the install easy, and also because the 18's are not the most used washer so buying used ( about 6 years old) saved me over 1/2 what new ones cost. The store has some other used equipment, so everything gels OK. The 60# maytag are a big hit. like flies to honey.
I do respect Marc's opinion, and he gave me the same one when I was building out my Maytag store. I took the gamble and went all Maytag anyway. I would cuation the idea of NO tops at all, I know your customer base is similar to mine at one store, they do love thier tops for whites and other things. Set a few in to be on the safe side, the TPD will pay for themselves in 6 months.
