Came into the mat and the attendant mentioned that a large amount of smoke was coming out from under the hood of a SQ 27 FL. The machine had stop in the middle of the final spin. I ran the machine and although I never saw any smoke, there was a faint smell of something burning. The machine appeared to go thought all cycles normally, except it would never go into a high-speed spin. Under the hood, about center of the machine appears to be 2 large relays with push down switches on top. When I push the switch on the relay closest to the front of the machine, it should manually start the high-speed spin. The cylinder attempts to turn, looks like its straining but never really takes off. I was going to attempt to swap the one relay with one from a working machine. There appears to be a smaller relay attached to it (on the left) then the whole thing looks like it’s attached to the machine by sliding along a track. It does not look like it’s going to be easy to just swap it out to test it. And in fact, I am not sure that’s even the problem.

So before going any further, I would like to get some advice from the experts. I only hope I have explained this issue clearly enough. Advise please.

Check the voltage on each side of the relays. If they function my first guess would be the check to see if you have a solid state motor switch (Sinpac type) or a mechanical centrifugal switch if your machine is single phase. Or start by working backwards from the motor, check to see if you have the correct voltage when the relays are engaged. You may have a bad motor.
