Has anyone used IRS's Revenue Reconsturction calculations that is based on water usage? Does that calculation match reality?
I tried plugging in my numbers and found that my actual TOTAL gross revenue is almost 8K less than what IRS's calculation says my washer and dryer revenue should be.
With that big of a difference, either water is being stolen from lmy line or the water usage per load numbers provided by Maytag is way off.

I would not worry about an 8000 gallon difference. A leaking toilet will use that much water in a year.

I'm shopping for my first mat; I've looked at several that are for sale.
I recently went through the analysis of water consumption over a 12-month period at a store that is under consideration. I did this using the IRS methodology (also recommended by the CLA) to attempt to substantiate the gross sales and utility expenses claimed by the seller. This store consumed a little over 2 million gallons of water in a year. The usage equates to enough turns to be within 5% of the sales figures claimed.

Bubba -- that 8K difference is not in gallons but dollars in revenue.

Are you using the correct water usage to compare with? You said Maytag may not be giving you the correct water usage? If you are using a water usage guide from maytag make sure the usage is based on how your machine is set. Maytag tends to boast water usage from a wash/2 rinse cycle versus the most common prewash/wash/ 3 rinse cycle.

Kitty -- I am using what the Maytag 14PD manual says...24 gallons per load.
I would have to check my settings but I think I don't have the pre-wash programmed. So it would be wash and two rinse only, however, the Maytag manual is not specific like you said.
Does anyone have an e-mail address for the IRS calculation for water consumption?

Hi,
In my previous post I requested some feedback on a potential mat. I have since done a water analisys and I would like to run my numbers by the board:
(5) 35# @ $3.50
(11) 30# @ $3.00
(8) 18# @ 2.25
(10) 10# @ 1.75 - top loaders
I called the town and got the water units from 2005 and multiplied by 748 to get gallons:
Month Units Gallons
Jan 211 157828
Feb 198 148104
Mar 252 188496
Apr 163 121924
May 244 182512
Jun 206 154088
Jul 216 161568
Aug 221 165308
Sep 259 193732
Oct 209 156332
Nov 220 164560
Dec 246 184008
Total 2,645 1,978,460
then used the IRS formula:
Washer Gl per % water Loads Income
35#'ers 63 23% 7,225.93 $25,290.76
30#'ers 54 43% 15,897.05 $47,691.15
18#'ers 32.5 19% 11,561.49 $26,013.35
10#'ers 20 15% 14,451.86 $25,290.76
100% 49,136.33 $124,286.02
A big question I have is the gallons per load that I am using

Gallons per load is in the repair / installation manual. Rumor is that that manufacturers fudge a little, but it should be close enough. The famed IRS manual (available online) has the gallons per load of many commercial washers listed near the end.If you can't locate the GPW, ask you local washer vender.

just a suggestion:
find out the cycles then ask the manufacture the water usage. as Kitty, states, 1 wash, 3 rinse standard, well, not. All mats have different configs. You can only get a window. If you think the owner is really ripping you, I am assuming you have built into your purchase contract language to eliminate this..
