I have a Huebsch 35lb frontload washer that the motor is trashed on the low side, so says the electrical shop. To completely rewind this motor is going to be $900.00. Is that about reasonable for that repair??

I have only been in the laundry business for 2 month, but I sure do like it so far!!!!
THANKS

I payed around $400 to have one rebuilt in the chicago area. This was an elmo motor for an SC27 machine.

Is the motor single phase or 3 phase. I does make a difference. I think $400 for a complete rewind, bearings seems a little low. I work with a motor shop who gives me very good service and their pricing a good. I check with them. about $600 to $800

I sometimes find it is cheaper to replace then rebuild if the end bells are worn. One more note another possible problem is the rotor rub the stator which can damage a motor. Sometimes the end bells get worn and allow the bearing to spin. They have to bore out to allow a bushing and the bearing to properly seat. What warrenty are they giving. Plus where you live has a big effect on pricing. If they do not give a warrenty, I would keep looking. Get a quote on a standard job and additional costs if they find other things.

Mine was single phase, rewound at a little hole-in-the-wall place in chicago, referred to me by a distributor.

Definitely not a big motor-shop by any stretch of the imagination, more like 2 old Polish guys in an incredibly cluttered little area.

In any case it was worth it to me, versus something like $900 to a grand for a new motor.

Oh heck just buy a new one here, good prices:

no idea what shipping would be like though.

I bought my last one through Norcal, not sure if it was for a 18# or a 35# but it was only $399 + $25 shipping.

Yes the elmos are out there but cross them exactly to your spec on the label.
Some will come with plugs, lead wires etc. Another note if your trying to do a wascomat it becomes a little more of a problem. The wascomat has a metric shaft. Most do not stock the metric and some alliance ( speed queen, heubush) will cross on size and speed. You can get a bushing and pulley to make it work
Also get new bushing many will come with out and at damaged when removing and reinstalling.

This is a single phase. I found a place in a larger city that does work for several laundry distributors that will rewind it and put new bearings in for around 485.00.
Thanks for letting me know that I should check all avenues first!!

Hey Jeff, sorry to hijack your thread, but I see you're in the business about 8 months. I'm thinking about getting in the business and was wondering if you had any advice for a fellow noob? Did you buy an existing business or build from scratch? Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about hijacking a 6 month old thread.
