View Full Version : America Disability Act Guidelines
Does anyone know anything about the ADA guidelines or know where to obtain a copy? Should we go ahead and take the credit after the update? Does it trigger anything else down the road? Why doesn't more people know and take the tax credit, which could be 50% of the improvement.

From what my CPA has told me, the deduction for ADA is only for an act that was aimed specifically at helping the handicapped, and not for the benefit of the general public. For example, you could write off the cost of a couple of front loader washers, but not all of the ones in the mat. Also, you could write off the cost of building in a ramp (to the proper specifications) if you already had an existing entrance that was accessed just by stairs. If you are building all new construction, and you were to install a ramp, that cost of the new ramp can not be deducted.
So you have to examine each case individually to see if it can be deducted. I suggest you get your CPA, or someone who knows the tax law, involved to evaluate if the ADA deduction can be taken.
