I was wondering with the high price of natural gas how many people charge extra for a hot water wash compared to a cold water wash. How more do you charge?

We charge the same cold warm or hot. Most rinse in cold or warm and you have the option to chose this in programming.
I tried multi pricing but it didn't work since people always change water temp after the machines had started.....so now, I charge a .25 more for hot water only - cold/warm remained the same pricing.

When my water and sewer bill was equal to that of my gas and elect I saw no strong reason to charge for hot water. We charged on a scale of one two or three wash programs on the Wasco Emeralds. However now that the gas and electric is nearly double my water bill it is making more sense to charge extra for hot water. The gas prices have risen 300% in the past 3 years and we have only changed the dry times from 8 to 7 minutes. We are way behind keeping up with the utilities so I am looking into to charging for hot washes. If anyone recently changed how was the reaction and what was how did it effect your net income?

I'm implemented variable pricing when I got the Dexter 25#. Customer understands why I charge .25 more for Warm and additional .50 for Hot. No problems for the last 2 years.
cold $2.25, warm $2.50, hot $2.75.

We charge 2.50 for the Dexter 25# any temp water. We charge a fair price on all of our machines but no extra charge for different water temps. Do you give a prewash?
*No prewash - customer are not willing to pay more for the extra cycle/time inconvenience.
It's a fact that "hot" wash cost more than a "cold" wash. Are you charging a fair price on all of your machines but no extra charge for different water temps - it really depends what everyone charges in your neighborhood. Will you lose customer if your competitor starts variable pricing?
I believed these are some of the competitive advantages under the variable pricing model:
1. Depending on pricing, I may gain more customers. My customer get to decide, depending on what their laundry needs; if I charge $2.50 for a warm wash, customer who wash in cold water get a discount and those who wash in hot pays more.
2. I can be more competitive. When gas price increases, I have the option of increasing the price of hot water wash without increasing the price of cold water wash.
3. My customer actively think of using less hot water. Hot water conservation is on their mind since it affect their pocketbook; which may lead to less hot water usage, which may lower heater capacity requirement; which may lead to less gas usage; which may decrease our nation's dependence on oil, global warming, etc., etc., etc.
OPINIONS are welcome.

We charge the same hot or cold. Make sure you're getting enough per load going in. I recently looked at a mat with four new Dexter 40 pounders and they were only charging $2.00 , in Bakersfield!!! A major metro area. We get $3.25 on the same machine, in a mid-size , rural town. When we were shopping for our mat, we also found a (not for sale ) mat that didn't supply hot water at all. They had signs explaining how modern soaps don't need hot water. I never saw anyone there. Points to ponder...

Maybe the real mordern mats don't need customers, just cold water.
If only they let us....I just recently visited laundromat, abandon by the owner, after the Health Dept. closed down for not providing hot water.

I know a guy who has coin ops in his apartment building. He only runs cold water there. Nobody uses it either.
The only machine I charge extra for hot water is my 80#
