View Full Version : interested in true 60lb washers
I'm looking to purchase a true 60lb washers(a typical 55lb is 9.0 cuft and 60lbwashers is 9.7 or close to that). I currently own dexter 55lb washer and am looking to buy bigger but NOT 80lb washer. it not needs to be big but also needs to look big. In my search I came across Maytag 's model MFR60PD washer, which looks big and truely is 60lb washer.
What is your opinion on the maytag's 60lb washer (model MFR60pd)? Would you consider any other?
Thank you in advance

Do you think the customers can tell the differece? Or do you have another reason.

I'm curious -- my largest washer is the Dexter 40lb and I've considered getting the 55lb for the occasional huge item. Are you saying you have items you can't fit in the 55lb? On that same note, my Dexter "triple loaders" are 25 lbs, so I tell people the maxi's (at 40lb) hold 5 loads of laundry...don't know what I'd tell them if I got a 55 - guess it would have to be seven (my signs have laundry baskets on them - would be hard to get seven on one sign)! I think I would also have to get a dollar coin drop for those machines.
perception is realty!! I have T600 - 40lb(most popular in TPD) and T900(equally popular in TPD). On weekends I lose business because I don't have enough of the T600(and this week I have already added 2 more T600 in place of T300) and T900 but plenty of T400 or tops.
Customer want big machines(and I want to give it to them), but I also want to earn more revenue.
If I place another 2- T900 I would get same revenue($4.75). However, if I place another big washer that is different, looks bigger than dexter and truely is bigger than dexter, I can warrant charging extra $.75.

I do not have the 60# Maytag, but I have a mat full of MFR model washers. Customers seem to really like them, and you can use the super cycle to get more money for an extra rinse. I have plenty of Dexter in other stores.

Turn per larger machine a lot of the time has to do with placement in your store. Customers sometimes just use the closest machines to your door more. Just adding something to think about.

Your right my larger machines are right by the front doors The coin boxes are the filled every 2 days And we have 12 big machines 40# and 55#
...and for some reason the washer on the right side is fuller than the one the left....

I have 2 Wasco Gen 6 55# ($5/turn), but it is my 5 Gen 6 30# that are my money makers.

I love my 60 # Speed Queens with B-Micro processor. Wouldn't trade them for the world.
Speed Queen 60# and Dexter 55# are both 9 cu ft inside - no difference - just a marketing ploy.

this is exactly the reason why I'm looking into the maytag/primus washer. It actually is bigger(9.7cuft) than the dexter(9.0cuft) AND it looks bigger.
If you are going to spend your money on .7 cu ft difference - save it. Spend it on an 80 lb machine and really show the customer a difference in size.

I still haven't gotten prices yet on Maytag washer but I can't imagine it would be any more expensive than buying dexter T900. 80lb is not an option for me in my store, because 1) it wouldn't fit through my door 2) industry wide 80lbers don't do as many turns as 55lb. I'm looking to charge slightly more than my current 55lb washer.(Like addt'l $.75).
I try very hard to keep all my washers the same,I don't think .7 cu ft is going to make any difference and you add one different washer in your store.
Door size is one reason customers pick washer.I had Ametek Big Boy once, they are only 20-25# washer but they took as much space as Wascomat 50#,look so big. When I repace them with Wascomat W124,took a while for customers to use to them since W124 has small door.
If the Maytage is bigger and have bigger door, your customers may pay more for it,otherwise stay with Dexter 55#.
I haven't seen the washer in action but the door opening is definately bigger than the dexter. I agree that .7cuft is nothing to write home about, but ethically I couldn't charge more for the maytag if it was the same size as the dexter T900. I'm hoping the customers will see for themselves that maytag looks and is bigger.
