I have been searching trying to find out how much water a washing machine uses in one wash cycle. I know there are several sizes, but I need an average number. Any help is appreciated.

Kind of a broad question here.
A Toploader can average 30 to 35 gallons
A Frontloader can average 50 to 120 + depending on how they are set up.
Energy efficient softmount fronts can use about 17 gallons

I use 1.8 gallons per pound of capacity. For example, a 20-pound washer like the Wascomat WE620 uses about 36 gallons. But even that is probably wrong, because different owner and user choices vary the number of pre-wash and rinse cycles, and there is probably some variation with the type of stuff being washed.
