My Gosh!!! they are trying to impliment impact fees here in our small town. City Counsel is voting on it at 5:00 tonight. We were told if we got our developers application in (along with a list of other things) we would be able to get the fees waived. Then 4 days before all is due they change there mind. $5,367 PER MACHINE! I know they can be high but this is insane.

Has anyone else seen it this high?

YUP, that is a fairly typical number in this neck of the woods.

We paid over 3.000.00 per EDU....I heard Kent County Maryland is around 5,000.00.

When dealling with politicians, get everything in writing, in triplicate with 2 or more witnesses. Then cross your fingers.

It makes our 750.00 per machine look pretty good.

I have had our mat for a little over a year. So far the City hasn't approached me for any fees?

What are these impact fees you are talking about?

Thanks
Dan

These fees are if you are building or expanding your laundromat. They are sewer and water impact fees, usually based on a per machine basis for any new connections. Aparentaly I was told the reason it is so high is that that bugs that do the work in breaking down the gunk at the sewer plant are killed by the detergent and bleach that is used in the machines, so they must use additional chemicals to counteract with the detergent/bleach.

impact fees can vary. One city wants 700 per washer, the one next to it $2300 per. I am not sure it is economically feasable to put in a new mat in many cases. I have passed on locations becuase of high fees. This is just another reason why new stores can be risky.

Sounds like there may be some intrinsic value to remodling instead of building new.
