I am thinking of buying my first mat but want to learn more before taking the plunge.
Does anyone have any feedback on the Coin laundry Assn. Seminar "Coin Laundry: Basics for Beginners"?
I am thinking of taking it. Is it worth the nearly $300?

You are probably thinking about spending 10s of thousands if not 100s of thousands of $$. Any way that you can increase your knowledge is worthwhile. CLA does a very good job of educating newbies.
You can learn quite a bit here as well. Scan the archives and ask any specific questions that you have. Their are many experienced people here that are willing to help.

The :eek::eek: does an excellent job with their beginners classes although I have never sat first hand I have seen the information second hand. I'm not sure about the information given out today for the new owner but I am sure it is still as informative as always, if not better. If you attend you will meet a variety of great and experienced store owners and talented people in this industry and you may make fast and long friendships. I'm not sure if the association still offers the new owners kit or not but it was very detailed back in the day with what I saw years back, you should ask about this if you choose to go.
You will have additional expenses beside your class fee. If you stay a night or two and take your wife or significant other, you will have the expenses of the meals, possible taxis/gas, tips, and possibly other expenses as well. Be sure to consider these cost in your thought process. Be sure to save these receipts as these will be your first expenditures for your new business. The cost of the weekend will exceed 300 bucks if you need to require hotel arrangements for 2 nights. The cost could exceed 1500 bucks+ - when you add the entire cost of the trip and the class together. However, as Mark points out, you must consider the cost/versus gain when considering this venture when thinking of going into this business. But, anyone who will consider nickeling and Dimeing their checkbook might as well be the kiss of death to themselves. Do yourself a favor now think wisely now and start smart with your education of your new business.
Please take advantage of every option out there that will give you the experience and the knowledge that will help you make the best possible decisions into the laundromat industry. Knowledge is Power!
Please be sure to utilize the search option here on Coinwash.com read all you can. Coinwash.com has oodles of information within the site. I spent a year studying this industry and shopping for an existing mat for sale. During that time, the most helpful sources of information were Coinwash.COM, the CLA Basics for Beginners seminar, and the owners of existing stores that I visited while studying. This year, now that I own a store, I'm planning to attend the more advanced Friday seminar.
I don't know where in NY you are located, but if you're in NYC, then you won't have to spend money on travel and lodgings...just enjoy the show! I'm making the trip from NJ on Friday by mass transit -- relatively inexpensive compared with the cost of the seminar, and a real bargain, considering that I have over $100,000 invested in my laundromat.

We would love anyone who would give us a reporters view of the CLA seminar to report back here on COINWASH.com.
I would hope the CLA would like the plug back as well. Please let us know who attends and how well the seminar is attended.
We like to stay tuned. Unfortunately, I will be in West Palm that weekend at a PGA Resort and Spa and wont be around for the festivities, but then I'd really rather be at the spa... Don't blame me do you?:).
We would love to hear from the attendees that do venture to the seminars. Please feel free to comment here on the board. We would love to hear what you have to say.
Looking forward to the comments.

May I point out, that the trade mags, CLA, Monarch, Greenwald, ESD, and ALL the other organizations that are involved with coin laundry, including the fine folks on this website are absolutely dependent on the operators making a profit. If they do not do well, we do not do well. So the information from the CLA should be very reliable. THey draw from experiences of operators from all over the country, and can share that information. I have not take the courses, but I have read a lot of the workbook sheets as they pertain to the areas we service, and they are very well done. I can't judge the material offered on Insurance or Finance, but for the parts we service they give you good info. Consider the cost of the course as "insurance", it is expened to insure you don't fall into some trap that might be avoidable.

Granted then why not support Coinwash.com and become a Sponsor we are hundreds of dollars cheaper and have a vast membership too.
Why else would you post this thread. We to need you to keep the pipe line open too. Agreed?

Wow, 6 replies in less than 24 hours. This seems like a great community board. I will probably take the seminar. If I do I will let everyone know how it was.
Thanks for the feedback

Now, the reason for my quest to ask for a reporters view of the upcoming classes was to bring a plug for the association and the education they bring for the potential new operator. The association has and will always offer a valuable education for those that seek it and those that have sought it out in the past. The educational classes CLA has is a great start for the future laundryman to begin with and subsidize his further education into the laundry industry with.
Any educational means for new operators is a discussion that should be brought to the pages of COINWASH.COM.
Bring it all on...to the pages of Coinwash.com!
Thanks...

I found the CLA basics seminar to be very helpful & informative
I joined the CLA before the seminar, so I got the member rate.
The membership includes a lot of helpful information, so might consider both. I'm not sure if I'll renew anually however, as I already have to nifty enrollment stuff
from a cost/benefit perspective, I get more for my money by contributing to this board
