Let me begin by saying as a new owner of an old laundry... and I have found this site very informative. I was looking through some magazines several weeks ago and saw an add selling new fronts for Huebch Loadstar 2 dryers (30 pound singles). I suspect that these old dryers may not be as effecient as newer ones (really not sure) but many customers comment on how fast these work compared to those down the street, and I wish to operate these old ones a while before making a decision to purchase new ones. I have also found these dryers are relitivly easy to work on.
I have tried to find this advertisement ... but seemed to have lost it. Do you think it is prudent to upgrade the fronts on these 20 year old dryers? (I have 19 of them) If so where can I find them at?
Thanks!
As far as I know, nobody make new panel for old SQ dryer.
You can have dryers painted,I had my dryers painted once, they looks ok or you can paint them by yourself. You may find people try to sell their used stainless steel dryer panel.
The old SQ may not the most effecient dryers but they last forever and parts are cheap. Some new stack's computer cost over $400,you save a little money on gas ,cost a lot for parts!

Great Idea on painting the old ones! I would like to purchase one complete set of front pieces as to be able to swap out the fronts while being painted so none of the dryers would be out of service during this time. Anyone have an old one laying around? :^)

There have been threads on this. I painted my mat's dryers years ago. I did 3 a week taking panels out on Tues and clean up, , paint weds, dry Thurs, hang friday. I used a best quality paint, and a foam roller, which had to be moved very slowly to not create bubbles.
Others have taken panels to the nearest auto repair shop and let them paint it.
The lower panel comes off with the key, the middle a few screws, the top flip I don't know, that is why I painted mine myself.

We repainted some of my ADC285 singles 4 years ago. All front parts were removed and spray painted with a quality automotive paint (almond). They still look great. Never regreted it.

I have all sorts of parts for the for the S.Q. II that is the unit with the aluminum control panel and square coin drop. Front panels and bottoms should be no problem I am getting ready to junk my last 8 later this fall. You can have them for scrap. Tom

My painting story is that I called for a price quote from a local place - was quoted several hundred bucks and several days of panel removal time. So, I painted them myself without removing them (appliance paint from Home Depot) and they look cool. No down time at all.
I also use appliance paint from Home Depot, Made by Rust-oleum. Worked great. I did buy some new panels for my SQ 30eg's (white) And painted the other parts white. You can't tell the differance between the new and painted. Liked it so much I just painted 2 50LB Milnor's with it.
