The good news is ....My store is not in New Orleans.
Around 5:00 PM this evening I boarded up my windows at my mat. At 8:00 PM I told my attendant to lock the front door and let everyone finish washing their clothes after the last customer left we locked up and went home. I told my employees that we will be closed on Monday and for then to come back when we have electricity.
Other than that we had a big day.
Baton Rouge appears to be on the left side of Katrina which is the weaker side of the storm. We should only have 30 to 40 mph sustained winds.
The big problem is going to be that electricity will be out for several days.
It should be real fun around here for the next couple of days.

Thank you for your prayers.
The Lord was with us. Baton Rouge was not hit hard. I lost power about 12 hours but we are back and running.
Please keep praying for New Orleans and the rest of the gulf coast.

I'm not suggesting that any of us look to profit from the misfortunes of others. If we had the power, most of us would never let a catastrophe like Katrina happen.
However, it has happened. Like last August here in FL, thousands of out-of-state power workers, tree workers, telco guys, etc are about to descend on LA, MI and AL to start the recovery.
Buddy, have you contacted local hotels, power company, etc. to let them know you're ready to help with laundry?

those people in New Orleans need to seek high ground NOW!
I really feel for them, this is a huge punch. I await this wrath on me someday, still, you can't prepare. The upside is I don't live 20 feet below sea level...still, it will hurt.
GO NEW ORLEANS~ just another story for your colorful past!

Wow on Nightline I just heard & saw that New Orleans is over 80% under water! This is mind boggling. My folks were stationed & were married in De Ridder back in 1944 so this is somewhat near & dear to my heart. It gives flashbacks of our Grand Forks area flood. The scale & logistics is mindboggling. I was just visiting with a lady from FEMA at the laundry a week & a half ago who told me about some of the intricacies & challenges of the recent Florida's dilemma. I remember a documentary about the "filling up the bowl" danger & here it has happened. Relying on a higher power to avoid being too discouraged is so important. Hundreds of thousands of people suddenly homeless!

thousands of people who suddenly cannot do laundry in their homes and apartments, but many of them have only the clothes they are wearing, so that makes it difficult for them use the laundromat and keep a shred of modesty
