Tonight I had a customer spend $120.00 I gave him one free wash and he was thrilled. Thanked me on the way out. Little things go a long way.

The unbelievable part of this story to me is that this guy can spend $120 at a mat, but he probably doesn't have his own machines.

Power to the laundry owners!!!!

I was chatting with a customer Saturday morning, and discovered that she had a washer at home. "Why doesn't you wash at home?", I asked. She replied, "I'd rather wash and dry in one place."

Go figure!

I own a large apt. complex directly across the street from my laundromat. Last night I greeted a tenant who had her two sons trudging their laundry and supplies across the street and around the block to go to another 'mat which is inferior in every way compared to ours. What do you suppose her rationale is? I'm going to ask her in a non-combative manner because it certainly doesn't seem logical to me. Any comments or ideas?

If she knows you own the mat, it may be because she doesn't like the landlord,

(you know landlords are all just thieves overcharging us on the rent, why would she make them any richer ?)

(I own an apartment building housing my mat !)

Beverly, Probably habit. I have people that drive right by my store to do their laundry somewhere else then one day they try mine and ask how long have you been here? I tell them 3 years or so and their response usally is I never new you where here. Go figure. Tunnel vision i guess. I am right on the main drag with a sign on the street that is 6*8 ft

Beverly,

I have all front loaders and my closet comp has some old top loaders that I suspect keeps a few patrons faithful. I too see people come in my store for a quick look and then bolt with their laundry piled in their back seat. We too have the newest and nicest store in town, great parking and prices in line with others. My only guesses for locals going to the comp are:

1. He has tops and I do not.
2. He has tv and we have Jazz radio
3. Some folks like the darker den feeling instead of clean well lit.
4. Habit
5. They do not trust my smile.

Nothing else I can think of. Perhaps someone has more ideas why we lose passerbyers or locals when all else is equal or better here??

Chuckels.

PS I am not sure I want all of his clients though as a few are some derelicts that were 86d from here.

To paraphrase Abe Lincoln, you can please some of the people all of the time and all the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time. Thanks for the supporting comments. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this respect!
