I lost a motor on a W655, It was covered under warranty ( It was really out of warranty by a few days)
Wasco sent me a new $1500 motor with the instructions to cut a wire and hook it into the overload relay. Now this is were the warning to Gen6 owner begins....ALL OF THE GEN 6 WASHER WERE SENT OUT WITHOUT OVERLOAD PROTECTION!
It's a easy fix, pop the lid and take off the lid of the back relay compartment. You'll see a red button on a relay that's saddled on another relay. There is two contacts on this relay. Locate the motor plug and you'll see two small white wires with 6 larger black wires. The wire your looking for is 271 or 2671 you'll have to cut this wire just right to get in the contacts.
This is MANDATORY that you do this or you'll be without motor protection.
$1500 and it's a bear of a job to change the motor.
My Sinpac or Electronic Switch went out and caused the more to blow.
I'm still the biggest fan of Wasco out here, but I don't understand why they haven't sent out service bulletin to owners and distributors on this problem.
I have 6 of the Gen 6s and love them.

I was told by a Wasco Tech all of them were shipped this way.
Could you ask them WHY ??
Was this a design error ??
Are they responsible ? Or who is ??
I am a Big Fan of wascomat.
It would be nice to hear from Wascomat and hear there side of the Story...........
What is the real STORY ???
Most Gen 4,5 have over temp switch in the motor but no over current(over load) switch build in,a few have overload switch but I don't know they are aftermarket or factory installed.

My Gen 5s have the overload hooked up. The set up is the same on the Gen 6s. The wires weren't connected. I've had to reset the red button on my 50# Gen 5 It only kicks when there's a drain problem, which is rare.
My guess is they left the factory this way and Wasco in America didn't know about it until they started replacing a lot of motors under warranty.
They way I heard it is they just know discovered it.

Glad to hear you still think highly of these machines. My perception was they seemed to have got this model "right" for our business more than other mfrs.
Question: Is your unit Electronic or Mechanical Control ? (you mentioned Electronic switch)
Also, did they say if the NEWEST units NOW come with overload protection ?

A electronic switch is a device on all single phase washers that looks like a capacitor. It replaced the older centrifugal switch that used to be on the front of your motors to kick in a bank of capacitors to boost your spin winding to get your washer up to full speed when spinning.
I do have the Emerald series Wascos instead of the mechanical series.
I don't know about the newest machines, mine are 3 years old.
Knowing Wascomat they are addressing the problem now.
I still believe that Wascos are the best large fronts out there, look if they weren't standing behind the product they would never have covered my motor out of warranty and told me about the over site.

I will be sending Wascomat a link of this thread and ask them for their input. When I was at the show I had approached their booth and made contact with someone who has frequented the site before as he had known my name, however our conversation was short as their booth was busy. I would like Wasco to know that their equipment is one of preference in this field, but from time to time we would benefit greatly for other manufacturer representation discussing their equipment for our members as well.

One of my 655s just started popping the circuit breaker when going into spin. I need to check this out...

I think this only applies to single phase machines? Or are three phase blessed with the same issue?

I have a bunch of Gen6 machines (20 - 55 lbs). They are all 3-phase machines, and none of them have sinpac switches. They don't have a relay that's sitting on another relay. They also don't have a red reset button. There are three large relays in the motor-control box, in the right-rear corner of the upper part of the machine, as viewed from the front. These three relays control the motor (cw wash, ccw wash, and spin). They are controlled by three much smaller relays on the motor-control electronic board near the relays in the same box. Can anybody relate the motor overload protection problem to this configuration?
Thanks.

We have a W640 Emerald single phase that just started smoking on the high speed extract. The circuit breaker was tripped so I assume the machine was or is not protected. It still runs but smokes. I'll check our warranty but fear this is going to be expensive.
What does a rewind cost for these motors in your area?
By the way, did wascomat ever correct the circuit protection or send out bulletin?

I remember hearing that people were having a problem with motors getting wet and burning up. A hose from the burket valve would pop out and leak water. I think there was a problem with a gray hose in the back also.

Hello
First of I would like to correct any misconception that all Gen 6 washers were miswired
that is not the case. There was a correction and a bulliten was sent out to dealers.
when I rcieved my motor a Tech Bulliten was also in the motor package. Now think a bit If one motor had that problem I would check all my motor overload and take corrective action... Wascomat did sympathize and help.. They did not give me the impression that they were trying to sweep it under the rug. What i have notice is if the machine is not draining properly you will have overcurrent isue and if not taken care of soon can cause motor to labor.
