The drum does not rotate during the wash cycle, the water fills fine, but no drum agitation. During the spin cycle the drum spins normally. So esentially there is no activity during the wash and prewash cycle except for the water filling and draining.

These are the steps I have tried:

1. Installed a new wash contactor but still no luck. When I depress the contactor manually I hear a faint humming sound. I checked the contactor with the meter and there is continuity on all the terminals when the button is pressed down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you hear the same humming sounds when the washer is in operation? Does the wash contactor pull down at any point during the cycle?. Did you verify that you have 3 phase on the load side of the contactor when it does pull in either manually or otherwise. I suspect that what is happening it that the wash conatctor does pull in at the correct times but you have bad contacts or disconnected wire(s) to the reversing side of the timer which will cause the motor to single phase the reason for the hum.

Thanks Marc, Yes the wash contactor pulls in at the right times and all I hear is a faint hum. The spin contactor/cycle works fine.

How do I verify that I have 3 phase on the load side of the contactor? Which terminals of the contactor would I set the meter leads on and what setting should the meter be on?

You mentioned the possibility of bad contacts or disconnected wire(s) to the reversing side of the timer, could you please let me know how I would identify/locate the reversing side of the timer? Also do I visually inspect for bad contacts or disconnected wires or should I use the meter, if I should use the meter am I checking for continuity?
Apologies for being so full of questions.

Marc,

It turned out to be a loose wire on the timer. All I can say is "WOW" your diagnostic knowledge is incredible! Thanks once again.
