View Full Version : SQ Horizon question
We bought 4 Horizon washers new, which was 1 and a half years ago. Today I was doing a load in one, and when it was finished and I was getting the clothes out, the clothes and inside the drum had a hot rubber kind of smell. I just thought that I was smelling the rubber door gasket and thought nothing of it. These clothes I hung up wet and one of the T- shirts had a black mark about 2 inches long and a half inch wide on it, with another little bit of black around the collar. It looked like oil, but I smelled it and it smelled like the hot rubber smell I had smelt when I opened the washer. So I went to the sink to try and wash these marks off, when I discover a hole about the size of a nickle not far from the big black mark. I wondered if that had something to do with it, so I looked at the hole from the inside of the shirt and guess what, if had that black stuff around it. My question is I know it was not on the shirt before, and I always inspect the drums before loading clothes. What could have caused these marks/holes/the odor?

I know you'll disagree but I think you got that shirt stuck in the door when you closed the door.

I have had black marks from my Horizons also. As people pulled clothes out, the black rubber door seal would mark their clothes. I can take a white wash cloth and wipe the the rubber door seal and it will get a black mark on it. Just sometimes though. So I'm thinking some kind of detergent, etc is effecting the rubber.
Yours however, I think Outlaw is right.

Check the washer carefully. Place your hand at the top of the tub and push up. If there is any play in the tub, you could have a bad tub support, seal and/or bearing. The play in the tub may allow the tub to rub on the boot, or catch clothing between the tub and the boot. Run another load of similar size and weight of fabric, pull up a chair and observe.

I won't disagree with you because it very well could have happened. Or there is a possibility like another member said that it could have rubbed against the rubber when I was taking everything out.
