I don't know if I ever told everyone but I have the best attendants that you could have. I got a call about 9:00 PM tonight from My man Jeff and he said " It's a good thing I'm honest, I just found about a $1000 in a washer. He said he thinks that he knows who it belongs to but not for sure. Then he told me he wanted me to come by and hold it till some one claims it. He knows my policy that we hold it for 30 days and if unclaimed it's his. Do you guys handle it the same way? And do you think your attendants would turn it in like Jeff did?

What a Christmas bonus if no one claims it.

My helper shows me the jewlry he finds, gold neckleces, earings, etc. Never has offered it "up" One time a customer called me and told me a gold part of an earring had found its way to the lint screen on a stack dryer, she told me the dryer so I could get it for her. My guy had it on his chain that nite, and it was not even the nite to clean the dryers! He did give it up when I asked him if he cleaned that dryer that nite. I never really put down any rules about what you find in the dryers or washers, so it is partly my fault I guess.

considering the amount I would extend it to 3 to 6 mths. Thats a lot to loose. Your state my have very definate laws on lost items/cash.

I agree 30 days is long enough, if the person has any sense they will have missed it that evening!

I've never had anyone ask for lost jewelry. I'd love it if some of them came back for the laundry they leave behind by the dryerload.

I tell my maintenance man - Money you find working and cleaning machines is yours. he loves the deal.

However, this case is different. This is a lot of cash, and someone is going to miss it soon. A video system would be great, because you could pinpoint the last user of the machine. Check your state laws. The police department probably knows the drill.

dear rondo - have you told your employee how great he his?? have you rewarded him for his generosity and honesty. Christmas is around the corner, bump up his bonus. You'll build loyality and in return - you'll get a greater service towards your customers. Good and honest people are hard to come by, keeping them is harder.

To collect the money you have to decribe it and how it was held together.:D Vjay, I treat this guy like a son. He lost his dad when he was a teenager and is my son's best friend. No one has claimed or asked about the money yet so Jeff is probably gone to have a very good Christmas including my bonus. I figuare if someone hasn't asked about it in the first 48 hours then they won't.
