I have a 500K Natco coil water heater.

I'm in the New York area, Does anybody know if this water heater needs to be inspected yearly by a licensed plumber?

Also, same is true for the RPC valve (valve that prevents water back flow), does it have to be inspcected yearly?

If not inspected does anybody know what the fine is?

If so, can someone recommend a reputable plumber.

Thanks you.

Here are the rules for New York (state rules)

http://www.labor.state.ny.us/business_ny/employer_responsibilities/safety/boiler1.htm

It looks like the laws require an external inspection every two years and an internal inspection of the tank every 5 years.

Had my water heater and RPZ valve inspected by licensed plumber. Total cost $375 plus tax, plus $30 to NYC.

Total work involved from Plumber .5 hrs. Here is what he did, looked at my water heater and said that it is pretty clean (I had wiped the dust the night before). Hooked up a pressure gage to the RPZ valve. Filled two 1 page forms.

Now I know what I want to be in my next life. Thanks for the replies everyone.

This reminds me of a water heater situation I just had (actually I've been trying to forget it but I can't). I have two heaters and I couldn't get one to fire...I did a few voltage checks and then got concerned about noodling with it since they are warnings everywhere to have a qualified service tech work on it. So I called a guy and he came out and said he wasn't getting voltage - I said "yeah, I wasn't either", so he says he needs to replace the transformer and the control module but there's no guarantee that will solve the problem (keep in mind there are only 4 controlling parts to my heater..xformer, control module, gas valve and the damper controller). He replaces the two parts (took 15 minutes) and it still doesn't work (he charges me $410 to do that...not fix the heater) - then I see there is a problem with the damper controller. He wants to charge me another $175 to replace the damper controller (but he's going to "do me a favor and not charge labor"...it's a $90 part). I said why don't we just jumper it out - he says he won't do it. I say okay, write the $410 check for the nothing he did, and fix the damper controller and it's been working fine ever since. Wont' make that mistake again.

I forgot one of the best parts...he tried to take my original parts back to his truck. I told him I wanted the parts back. When I jumpered out the damper controller the heater wouldn't fire...when I reinstalled my original parts (effectively reversing the $410 he just charged me), the heater worked fine.
