Has anybody been doing any shopping for insurance lately? I currently have my insurance through my mortgage holder but was curious as to what was out there and cost. The insurance agent I deal with for my house and cars just sent me a letter that they were unable to find any standard carriers that would insure coin laundries.
Are we going to soon find out that we are uninsurable as an industry?

For your general area, try Safeco (American Economy Insurances Company, Indianapolis, IN ). They work through local agents. They are very reasonable (20% better then CLA) and a good, responsive company.
No sense in giving ballpark estimates since all insurance coverages vary widely depending upon liability desired, fire protection, equipment value, etc.

We were with The Hartford for many years. But two years ago they jacked our rate from $2,100 a year to $4,500. Guess they were trying to get out of the mat insurance business.
My agent found Preferred Mutual and now I'm paying $2,700. I can live with that. We have the usual millions of liability, lost income, damage, etc. for coverage. My agent explained to me that insurance companies will insure industrys that they are familiar with. It turns out the PM has been insuring mats for years.
My quote from CLA was in line with The Hartford's.

I was insured with Safeco and had a big claim, they treated me like crap but I got even and hired a private adjuster and busted them a new one (180,000) hope I didn't have an effect on them covering mats. They did have execellent prices though. He He He

I am insured by American States, underwritten by Safeco. My insurance (one mil liability, 120k equipment, 2250 sq feet, and more) runs about $900 a year. The recent increase to $900 is probably because of a paid claim from three months ago due to vandalism. The claim was handled quickly and to my satisfaction (2k).

I faxed in an application to CLA Insurance on 3/9 for a quote for workmans comp, it is now 3/23 I called them yesterday and they still did not have a quote, they claim they are still looking for an underwriter, Does anyone know who else I can go to for insurance. I think they are in total disarray with the insurance thing.

Our state has a quasi-state run company for workers comp (SCF of Arizona)...I think some other states also have similar programs. They seem to have the best rates. You can ask you state worker's comp people for their recommendations/ideas.

Your insurance agent that covers your liability insurance should be able to cover your workmans comp needs as well, this is done in NC

The CLA is really screwed up right now. They had St Paul drop out of the coin laundry business and are now working with three other carriers. They got my renewal through Safeco. The good news is that the premium was almost exactly the same as what I paid last year for St. Paul. The screw up is I asked them to requote it with a higher deductible. I heard nothing back for 10 days, when I called they said just accept it the way it was and they would change it later as when they ran it with a higher deductible it priced out higher. Go figure that one!

You're lucky, I used Edward Brody & the carrier was Kemper, they no longer issue bus. ins. so they went to Safeco, for the exact same coverage my annual rate more than doubled. In 11 yrs. never submitted a claim, so I went to NIE for a quote, got same coverage and I'm paying less then when I was insured with Kemper.

It all depends, it seems there is no one right size fits all. I too got a quote for NIE and it was almost double what I was paying.

CLA could not find me insurance now. I have about 20 days to find something. Anyone in Florida that has a mat in a coastal town let me know who your carrier is please. I am in an A flood zone, but do not care about flood, just liabilitiy. This is what I told CLA, they said no insurance becuase I am in a flood zone. Flood is written by the US goverment, anyone can buy it, wind/hurricane is written by the state.. Go figure.

They finally called me back, and yes I now will get workmans comp. insurance The quote was for $2065 per year, my last insurance co CNA was $1780, but because I canceled my liability with CNA and went with CLA insurance, they only will do a package deal, so now I am stuck with CLA. Anyway the moral of this story is I see absolutly no advantage of having insurance through CLA, or for that matter being a member, but I probably will give them my fees next year for some stupid reason.

If someone here gives me a good lead on ins and I can buy it right I will send my CLA dues to coinwash instead. Acttually, I was thinking about that anyway, CLA is OUT. I will really miss "The Journal"
The ads, not the pictures.

You don't need to be a CLA member to get the Journal - they will send it to anyone for free.

My insurance agent got the company that insures 2 of my mats to take the one I had insured with CLA. It is coastal, meaning a hard area to insure. I thank everyone for thier suggestions. I never even asked my agent the price, that is how bad it is here!
Coinwash, check you paypal. My cla dues are yours now, well, 1/2 of them. I may donate the other 1/2 to CLA anyway.
