Has anyone had experience with a shoe repair shop in a laundromat? Can it be an additional source of revenue? Is there a need?
Thanks,
Andy

Seeing them inside dry cleaners, I have also wondered why they couldnt be feasible in a mat.
As an aside, I paid $7 for a shine recently. It was the best I ever got.

I think anything that makes money and does not hammper your true business is always good. If there is no shoe repair, and that is getting to be a rare trade, then why not.

I tried it...actually I approached a shoe repair place a few miles away and agreed upon a split price (like the dry cleaning drop), I advertised it for awhile and only had one person drop off a pair of shoes for shine and repair. His shoes were so old they should have been thrown away, but that's a different story.
The shoe repair place had the same problems because I had someone ask me about it two years later and I called the guy and he was out of business.

Shoe repair is expensive, therefore the only customers are well paid white collar workers in white collar neighborhoods or downtown business district areas, who own expensive shoes. Your typical laundromat customer probably won't spend $7 for a new pair of shoes.

I tried it. Didn't work. Since we have no shoe experience, it was hard to use the neighboring cobbler's price list. In 2 years of in-store promotion, took in 1 ugly pair of shoes which, once repaired, were never claimed.
