I had my first wdf customer today, actually I have had many but this is the first one I took. My helper cleaning person was there so I figured a good time to take the business and show her how to process it.
A vacationing family brought in a big cart load of stuff. I had Gina count the pieces, then weigh it out. 29 pounds, then calculate the price and collect the money. The customer was told to pick up the next day. We sorted the dark and whites. The bulk of the load was darks, and then about a small load of whites. I had her put the darks in a 25# washer. They really did not fit, it was to packed even though the load was about 22#'s, and just clothes, no heavy stuff, so I had her put them in the 40#, which was overkill. The whites went into a 12# IPSO. I could have split the darks into 2 18#'s I guess. The customer brought in her own soap. I think it took about 1hr, 15 mins to process. Gina cleaned the windows while waiting for the machines to get done. We tracked the vend price on the ticket. It appears about 1/2 of the total bill went into the machines in form of quarters, the other 1/2 to Gina in form of payroll. I know I made money off the machines, so I guess this is OK. We have a couple pick up customers starting next week, so will see how it goes. As long as we keep the wdf during her normal cleaning hours it should be OK. Of course I went out and bought more supplies to have on hand, so my profit got spent:) We have many resorts nearby, I may approach the hotels and talk about p/u & delivery of their guests' laundry in the future. Florida has a 2% gross receipts tax on dry clean and laundered services, so I guess I owe that also..
