I was pondering the use of the card system and had a question concerning the dryers. If you price them for say 8 minutes a quarter, does that mean to run it for 24 minutes you have to remove and then re-insert the card 3 times?? Or do you just press a certain button repeatedly? Just wondered how this worked.

Yes, you have to remove and insert the card three times to get 24 minutes. I guess it is like adding 3 quarters...

As a newbie smart carder.. but experianced at coin, I am setting my newest mat at (card) 14 min per 45 cent, so the customer only has to do the insert, reinsert twice on a regular load. This was one of the things the card can do for you, give best dry time for a given price. I found 28 mins drys most stuff. So why not go with 28 m in for 90 cent? If a trip loader of wash gets put in , then you need more than 2 dry cycles. Experiment starts soon....

I wonder about customer feedback from the customer who needs just 5 minutes extra to completely dry their clothes, they may be unhappy about having to pay for 14 minutes ?

I have not had one customer complain that they had to reinsert the card four times (to get 32 minutes). The most important thing for the customer is that the dryer is HOT! (I lowered my temps just a few degrees and I got SOOO many complaints that I had to switch it back. Customers actually thought my dryers were broken.)

Pete

Do clothes dry faster in Florida?
My average customer 40-48 minutes no complaints
Temp hi 175

My new Auroras are 24 Minutes

Winter clothes are heavier

What is the averge time to dry a load of clothes in the
northeast?

Don't think you can accurately compare dry times unless a store has the same washers and dryers as there are too many variables.

As far as drying faster in Florida vs Northeast that is another hard question. While you would think hotter makeup air would lead to faster drying that is not true. Cold air holds less humidity, thus while it takes a little more energy to heat it up, it has the capacity to hold more humidy from the clothing. Don't know if this is a wash in practice or if one is favored versus the other.

I have 3 mats open, and do my own wash in all of them from time to time. I never take more than 30 m ins to dry. I have been testing my new one to optomize dry time. I find 28 mins seems to dry most loads quite well. These are loads out of a 18# maytag front loader.
I know if you have towels, jeans, etc it will take 45 min or so.
What dryers do you have? Mine are mostly Dexter, but the MAytag (ADC) seem to be in line with them from my testing. As to Mike, I thought the same question, and figure most people will have at least 2 loads of wash. If for some reason everything is not dry they will combine the rest of the stuff and run 1 more cycle.

I had a customer come in yesterday and use 3 35# washers and 2 18# washers. Just for the hell of it I took a look (have card system) at how much they spend on drying. If I equated everything to and 18# load then they used 22 minutes on my ADC-236 dryers per load of clothing.

I have theSpeed Queen Smart Card system. I have the ability on my software to allow the dryers to be "topped off". You DO NOT have to reinsert the card each time. Leave the card in and press the START button and it will add anoth 10 min. to dryer.

As a customer I would not leave my card in the machine. How does it work with several dryers running? Winds up being the same thing doesn't it?

The ESD chip cards can be left in the reader and the start button pushed multiple times to get the desired amount of time. With the CCI system (mag stripe), each time the card is inserted and removed you get the vend time and the amount is removed from card. If you want more time you repeat process until the time is what you want. Both can be done at the initial start of dryer. The CCI system won't let you start a machine unless the card is removed. The customer doesn't have to "leave" his card for the machine to operate, in either instance. Just to start the machine.
