During my collections this morning, heard a "different" sound when I dumped the quarters into the coffee can. Came away with 13 1964 silver quarters.....all in excellent condition.

Glad the sound is different, otherwise I wouldn't even have noticed them.

I just checked a coin website. If I'm reading it right (and grading the condition right), it looks like they might be worth $5-$10 each. I could settle for fewer TPD if all the quarters were 1964's.

IT is amazing what people will spend if they are hard up for cash.

My wife has worked retail past 18 years. She is always bringing home rare coins and bills customers spend.

I had previously read that 1964 was the cut-off date for the silver Quarters.... But if you look at 1965 & 1966 quarters, they look different from later ones.
I thought i'd read somewhere that for 2 or 3 years afterwards, they had "Partial" silver quarters.

Anybody know anything more about this ?

I received a 1957 One Dollar bill - Silver Certificate - in the change machine. When sorting the cash, I notice the odd collor and very fine engraving (scroll work). It is a very classic looking dollar. Still have it.

I get 2-4 silver quarters every month in my collections. I have gotten 2 Liberty quarters in the last 5 years. This is one of the benefits of counting the qurters rather than weighing them, as you can hear the silver quarters when they fly thru the counter. They have a more musical tone about them, higher pitched and bell-like. Two weeks ago, I found my first Mercury dime in the soda machine collection.

I recently got a 1976 silver quarter with a "S" mint mark, which you can only get in a proof or mint condition by purchasing it from the US Mint.
Someone is spending their coin collection.

As a coin collector when very young ( hmm, now it make sense_) I looked for silver hard. Those mid year mentioned earlier were clad coins, had some silver. I find them now and then. I do not think someone is spending thier collection on a soda or wash, but rather, silver has been gone for 40 years or so, so no body looking. I got a dime back in change recently. Whats it worth? not even sure what I did with it, but it was silver...
