Does anyone know any companies that install water filtration systems for laundromats. The County I want to build a laundromat in requires a filtration system.

learn about the process and products they give a great demo (I worked for them a bit)....

What ype of filtration you need?

Iron?
Sulpher?
Hardness?

You can email me offline if you want.

I'm not endorsing Culligan, they are at the top of the price range, but they do explain stuff well.

This type of filtration is used to remove the particles like lint and dirt down to a certain micron. Before the waste water goes into the sewer system. There is one company in the area called aquarell Im trying to find out if there are any other company out there that install the systems.

Thanks Bob

I think you need what we referr to as a lint trap. It is basically a small septic tank, and can be set up 2 ways. The outflow of all your washers dumps into it, then goes on to the main city sewer drain. Many are not much more than a 2'wide, 3' long, and 4' deep box with 2 or 3 wire mesh screens like ckicken wire across the witdth so they catch the "lint" and inflow is on one end, the outflow to the city or your regular serwer system on the other end. Some lint traps are more round and deep, with the incoming line high and the outflow line same level high but a 90 degree and section of pipe sticking well into the pit so it will not allow the lint, which floats, or the muck, which does not, to enter. Some cities or counties do not accept that design. It can be countered by putting wire mesh on both pipes, then taking it off after you get your OC. You have to have the traps cleaned by a septic truck every so often, maybe once every year, 18 months. The screen style uses 3 sizes, staring with a 1 1/2" and the last screen is a 1/2" holes. 1/4" will plug so you have to change that back to 1/2 or more after they inspect it also it they make you go that far. Ask the county for thier specs or just give them this design, they likely have no idea what they really want.

Pete's right on the money. I missed the part where this was for your outflow. I thought you had inflow problems!

He is also right when he says the inspectors probably don't know what they really want. Most traps are exactly like Pete describes. Ours are about 2 foot square and 30" deep. When we formed ours, we put a 1/2" wide, by 1/2" strip on the outside of the formers, which created a nice channel in the middle of the trap. I went to the local scrap metal yard and found some diamond wire (expanded metal) which we cut to size and slid into the channel. The cuts in the diamond wire form holes that are no larger than 1/2", which is the guideline I got out of my city inspectors.

We clean this pit out ourselves about once a month. We use a wet vac to suck it dry, then scoop out the muck. Its not that bad a job. My maintenance man does it. To sweeten the pot, he gets to keep any loose coin or money that he finds, usually 3 or 4 dollars!

This trap also qualifies as the trap that you need. Just use a 90 degree elbow and turn both the intake and outake down. There is no reason to have any other traps in your system, except for the ones that are downstream. My inspectors fought this at first, but once we talked about it, they realized it served the purpose. Hopefully, it goes without saying that you want your toilet to be downstream.

Sorry guys let me get into this a little deeper. I am a general contractor in the New York Long Island area. Over the last 3 years I have been contracted to construct several laundromats. Which I have successfullly completed. I know all about lint traps and could answer all the questions regarding consrtuction of a laundromat. Part of Suffolk county requires a Filtration system at a cost of 100k for the system and all the pools outside. The filtration system is a requirment of the D.E.C. I have found only one contractor that has the approval from the D.E.C. for a filtration system I was looking for another contractor .
In the new laundromat I construct a room approx. 10' x 14' thats used for the filtration system, so it takes up alot of room. The waste water from the washers goes through the filtration system then the lint trap which is 3'x3'x4' deep with 3/8 mesh screen which is not needed but required by local towns, then water flows to the large pools and overflows outside underground. Okay I thought the filtration sysems were a more popular item around the country but maybe there only required on Long Island. I also thought that an out of state company could come in and install the system.
Thanks for listening to me and trying to help hopefully I can be of some assistance to you.

Thanks Bob

Your problem almost sounds like they want you to have a system similar to car washes, where the water is re-used after it is "cleaned". You might want to check with those type of sources.
I have never heard of a micron filtration system before it hits a lint trap, but I do not work for a goverment entity and therefore do not think up crazy things to make it difficult for business to operate. Pools in 10x14 rooms? they want you to run your own sewer plant? At the very least I would be looking for a discount on my sewer bill, and if motivated showing up at a town/county hearing about what the he*l this is all about.
As an aside, you may want to go to the clean show, see the thread. I saw a couple systems that recycle most of the water back and reuse it, resulting in near zero water/sewer costs. And the price? I remember around $50k to 80K, that was in New Orleans '01 and my memory might have been a little fuzzy. But if you need to spend 100k I think those system are in that ball park with hot dogs. Again, similar to the car wash industry, only more "pure"

Thanks for your response the water is not reclaimed and used again. The pools are cesspool type pools installed in the parking lot not in the filtration room. The filtration system is used in the areas where there is no sewers availble. The name of the company is Aquarelle if you want to read about the filtration system do search for Aquarelle.
Thanks Again Bob
