I'm meeting with a Dexter rep Wedenesday to discuss how many washers and dryers I need in a 2000 sq. ft. building. I know it will also depend on demographics in the area, but is there a general rule of how many I should have considering the size of the building? What ratio of washers to dryers, or how many 20lb, 40lb, etc? I'm sure the rep will go over this with me, but I know his job is also to sell. I don't want to buy more than I have to. I would appreciate any help.

It will depend on your mix which will depend on who your customer is as well as the market. Listen to your rep, but be sure not to pack so many machines in the space that will reduce a good flow through the mat. You want some seating room, vend area and folding tables. Be sure to keep enough room between machines too.

When you set the place up you don't have to go with all the machines at once. Just do the plumbing and electric for the max # then expand as needed. I would go with 2 or 4 extra dryer pockets than washers. That is where the backups always seem to happen. I would also go with stacks.
If the population is over 35k I would look at no less than 6 - 40pd machines and at least 15 - 18pd front loaders and mabye one or two 55pd. and if you can avoid it no tops at all.
I have none in one store and down to three in the other store. ( tops )

Agree about the tops. I remodled a closed store about 18 months ago. All new equipment and NO top loaders. I have 4 - 55#, 10 - 35#, 10 Horizons. Dryers, 12 stacks and 2 75#. No complains about not having top laoders and everyone loves the big dryers.

Is this is new store or re-model?
My stores have about .35 pound of wash capacity for every sq ft, so maybe you could fit 720# worth. I agree with Gary,. plumb for miore and start with a little less.

Pete, this is a new store. I'm planning to buy mostly all new equipment. I guessed that I would need about three top loaders, but maybe not. I'll let all of you know what the rep tells me Wednesday. Thanks for the help.
