View Full Version : W74 will not lock door

I have a new door interlock assy, but the locking solenoid will not actuate without assistance. If I tap on it lightly, the solenoid will extend fully.

I thought the frame that holds the solenoid was under strain, but with the power off, the solenoid moves freely.

This is a 110v W74. Is the 220v washers solenoid different? In the Summit catalog, page 184, it doesn't differenciate.

When I read voltage, I get 170v DC.

New timer.

Any ideas?

I'm not familiar with the 74, but the 75 definitely has different parts for different voltages. What you are describing sounds like a voltage mismatch.

The 174DC doesn't make sense. Even if rectified, the voltage would be higher. I'm sure some folks on this boards know whether this power is rectified to DC. My guess is that its not. Are you sure you don't have a different voltage feed to this machine? Of course, there should be a data plate, but if not, what is the voltage across the terminals coming into the machine? You might also have a low voltage feed from the power company.

Wasco has great tech support, from my experience. Give them a call as well. 516-371-0700

OK I called!

They said either the delay is bad or the solenoid is bad. Voltage should be approx 130v DC.

Since the solenoid seems to work very well when it gets so far over, I might try to shim it out with a washer. As long as it activates the microswitch it should be ok.

David, the soldeoids for the 11o and 220 machines are the same, they read 150V on the nameplate. I'd try the shim idea first. Wadco can walk you through testing the delay unit, but they rairly go bad. When they do the after market ones are easy to replace , just tighten the 3 wires down with screws after snipping the soldered ones from the original.

I added a 1/4 washer under the mounting flange to move the solenoid away from the switch arm. It works correctly now.
