I have a W-74, and originally, a customer called and said the water was just running through the machine. When I got there, water was running, with no build up of water level in drum, and machine was not running, other than water. I advanced cycle manually to clear the load and started troubleshooting. Checked drain for obstructions, none found..Drain in open position. To make a long story short, I even changed out the entire top control tray, as I have a spare, thinking it was a timer issue. When machine was restarted, it ran fine until the completion of the soak cycle, and after drain was activated and water left the drum, that was all the last thing it did. Timer would advance by itself, but no functions would happen.
Totally stumped here in VT. Any help appreciated. Also, I even changed out the capacitors below.
Thanks everyone for any help.

Your description of you problem is very unclear. If water is running non-stop and you shut the power to the washer then your have a bad water valve either hot or cold. In that case you could either replace the diaphragm or the complete valve.

I have no idea what else you are trying to say, please clarify.

Sorry, as I re-read this it was unclear. The machine was in the middle of it's cycle. It was not running meaning it was waiting for the water level to build, before the drum would start to turn. I believe this happened at the end of the wash cycle prior to going into rinse. After I cleared the machine, that is when I started troubleshooting as I had mentioned, and got into replacing the tray after I couldn't figure out other actions that were not responding.
Subsequent test runs after this tray changeout showed the timer working and advancing, but no functions workingf off of it.(i.e. no water , no spin, no nothing. just the timer going around)
Is this tied into the door lock circuit??? The door lock is the only thing that is working.
Thanks.

Since you changed the tray, the only thing left is the door switches.

Take the front panel off. Start washer and when it stops, make sure the door lock is still engaged. If it is, then it's one of the two door switches.

I had a Wascomat that would start and stop in strange places. I found out the lever on one of the switches was bent and as the machine would wash, the door latch would work it's was out just enough to stop the washer.

Make sure you hear the click in the switch when closing/latching the door. But even better, check them with a ohm meter, as I have had some click, but still be bad.

Your original problem sounds like either the drain was held open by an object (such as a bra underwire), or the motor on the drain valve failed to close the valve. When you switched out the tray, other problems occurred. Perhaps in the switch, something was connected incorrectly, or not connected. I would make absolutely sure the tray was installed correctly. If the problem persists, I would reinstall the original tray and re-evaluate. If it then works as described in the original post, check for voltage to the drain valve, and observe whether or not the drain valve motor runs when energized.
