View Full Version : Dryer Maintenance

When doing preventive maintenance on Huebsch 30# stack dryers:

1) I sometimes find belts that are frayed - some so badly that it's obvious they need to be replaced, and others so little that it's obvious I can get a lot more service out of them. The question is for the belts "in the middle" - is there a rule of thumb to determine that the remaining service life of the $37 belt isn't enough to leave it on the dryer?

2) The ball bearings at the back of the dryer sometimes are "frozen," so the shaft is turning on unmoving metal. When I hear a squeaking noise or the bearing housing is starting to fall apart, I know to take the dryer out of service to replace the bearing - but often there is no symptom to let me know there is a problem. Is there some way to detect a bad bearing without taking the dryer apart or removing the bearing?

Also, how frequently do you schedule preventive maintenance on your dryers?

Thanks ... Mungo
